You think we’ll really make that jump on offense? We were pretty horrendous this year.
2017 Auburn had the 15th ranked offense with 452 ypg and 33.8 pts. 2018 they dropped to 98th at 374 ypg and 28.3 ppg.
The big difference was offensive line. Auburn was the only team lower than LSU in the SEC in number of starts by returning OL. Stidham was back, but they lost Kerryon Johnson at RB.
Poor OL play killed Auburn more than losing Johnson. 2019 will see the addition of the #1 OG Thomas, Hines has emerged as a very good OG option and the development of Rosenthal may give us a better option at OT. No matter what we will have a more experienced OL vs 2018. Maybe Ingram comes back (best OL on 2017 team), maybe he doesn't, but it is safe to say the OL will be better.

I’ve seen too much poor pass blocking

The same thing was said coming into this season.

Would it be fair to say that an elite recruiting staff in the SEC should do better than 16th in their second recruiting class?
The staff is not an elite recruiting staff but its better than most people think. Robinson is bad and Sullivan is a recruiting waste. Meatball has a month to prove himself. The rest are good to great recruiters.
Add Burrow to the class and see where it ends up.
Also O made one big mistake and that was the Goodrich/Surtain situation.
Even if you don't include Burrow but include Goodrich the class finishes 10th or 11th

Before Ingram got suspended and they had to start 8 different combinations because of injuries.

Does this somehow make the assumption that the offensive line had to be better this season correct? No, no it doesn't.
Making assumptions that anything is going to be better before we even know who will be on the roster next year is stupid.

the thread surely doesn't go 21 pages because everyone is agreeing that Coach O is a good recruiter

This was an excuse early in the season but it’s fricking BS now
Charles started 9/12 games and missed La tech, Southeastern, And Ole Miss.
Lewis 12
Cush played 12
Seculars played 10 at RT and 1 at LT ( Southeastern)
Brumsfield played 8.
Games we were actually without more than 1 starter?
2. La Tech and Ole Miss and we actually played pretty well vs Ole Miss.
What was a real issue?
Charles regressed
Brumsfield regressed
Deculus didn’t progress.
Troare looks like a bust.
Lewis and Cush were just OK.
Overall we just weren’t good.

Do you think that any coaching staff has a competitive edge over Saban? If that answer is no then why would you think it's ok to ask anyone the question you just asked?
You're the one that seems to be projecting a NC in the next couple of years. How do you think we get there if we can't challenge Alabama
You don't have to have a competitive edge over Saban to beat him. Teams have beat him before. Do you honestly think that ole miss has ever had a competitive edge over Saban?
Sammy you eat shite that wasn't me that responded to your post and I know that you're not comparing me to Ree.

LSU has started this many lineman only 1 other time in the last 18 years.
"OL get hurt all the time"
yea, no shite.
What is the context of that saying?
1 guy getting hurt= OL get hurt all the time
6 guys get hurt= OL get hurt all the time!!!

You have to do better than two shutouts at home in 3 years. I have no doubt that the football coach and his staff worked diligently to prepare for Bama but for some reason their game plan has been ineffective. No bashing there, those are just facts supported by the evidence.
What do you see in this coaching staff that makes you think we're anywhere close to competing with them?

With only 2 returning starters after losing our best OL in Ingram I'm surprised anyone said the OL would be better.

again.
Post Ole Miss did we not start 4/5 of the same OL
Brumsfield was the only starter that was injured and actually
Missed time and wasn’t replaced.
RT we started Magee in a position battle and Deculus took over pretty quick.
Charles sat out early OOC and Ole
miss, but played VS Auburn, And Miami.
Yeah you can say OL injuries are why we looked like ahitnin September
You can’t say that’s why we looked like shite in October. And we did look like shite vs Arkansas and Alabama.

All we heard was how getting the young guys PT meant they'd be good to go. They weren't.
Now we just have to assume that everyone is going to improve NCAA 14 style. +4 to all returning players, right?

Yes and look what it does to a team like FSU who despite having the #3 ranked QB Francois and #1 RB Akers have a shite offense.
