You think Sage Ryan’s motivation to enter the portal was based on getting a payday?

I think you are wrong, and I think there is a decent chance he still hits the portal.

The problem isn't the portal, nor is it NIL. The problem is that we have both, and the way they are configured is ridiculous.

The NCAA has screwed up and allowed schools to be directly involved with paying players. This allows tampering of players at other schools.

NIL was never supposed to be about what the school can pay a player. It was supposed to be about a player having the right to make money off his own name, image and likeness.

We need to restructure things, or be honest about college athletics now being minor leagues for the pros.

But for a kid who comes from a single parent home living on government assistance with a household income of $30k, and $100k payment very well could be "life changing".

So incredibly naive if you think a payment of $100K is going to be life changing for anyone.

After the IRS gets their 30% you have $70K. Then.. the agent gets his 10% plus expenses, you have around $55K left. After mom, uncle Joe, brother Bill, abc others get their cut, the kid gets left around $25,000 left. He blows it on a down payment on a car and a little jewelry and he’s left with nothing by the time he’s out of college.

#1, he's not worth anything in the portal.

#2, he's playing out of position and hasn't really hit his stride as a player relative to his accolades.

I suspect he was looking for greener pastures. I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that, given the lack of depth, LSU asked him to stay on through the bowl game.

Ask yourself this...what role is Ryan going to play next year and is that a role that he thinks he can be successful in?

On 100K? It's a little bit higher than that, I think depending on the state

don't forget about social security...if NIL is a contract basis, it's 15%

Anyone who thinks most of these kids are making lots of life changing money are delusional and incredibly naive.

I agree to a certain point. I think it's more like 15-20 are making life changing money, because when you come from nothing, $100,000 is life changing for them, but not to a majority of us. I also think since NIL is so new, crazy money is being thrown around like Monopoly money, but over time it will level off.

I have to disagree, the problem with the portal is the structure of the portal.

If someone wrote me a million dollar check that i currently dont have, how is that the parents or agent's issue?

Every snap you take is a risk of injury. Until they put better rules in place. do what you have to do and adios.

It’s the “travel ball” generation. These kids grew up knowing if they didn’t get their way, mommy and daddy would put them on another team so they could have their way

Not what happened at all. He’s is not ready to be an SEC caliber starter at LT. If he was Bama would have taken him over Procter and he’d be starting there with a bank roll.

His family may think he’s ready but they aren’t at practice everyday.

Just because he can't beat out Will Campbell doesn't mean he can't start as a LT for an SEC team. Are you at practice everyday?

That was the case long BEFORE the "legalization" of NIL. The mindset now is if someone is offering you $100k today you take it and worry about "tomorrow" as it comes along. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow. So I can understand why some choose to take the money on the table now

There is a disconnect and different perception of what NIL means to certain players and their situation.

Now it’s all out in the open for all to see

Sage Ryan. He wanted to enter the portal but he has a good family base that said he wasn’t gonna get the money out there he thought or wanted. They blocked out all these agents selling them big false dreams.

Nope. He made a public decision, thus opening himself up to public criticism

I believe they can be an intermediary, but they cannot pay them directly.
