Eta: Last year was the early signing period which came before the bowl game as did this season.

Most of LSU's top targets didn't sign in the early period. This is another thing that the perception has changed, IMO.

I've actually done a 180 on this since the early signing period and agree with Lester Earl now. The perception of LSU is back on the upswing due to this season's results. Finishing with a bowl win, coupled with a 10+ win regular season in 2019 and LSU is back in the championship conversations going into the season rather than having to "prove it" like they did this year.

Does it really do anything to affect the future success of LSU football? I'm one of the biggest sticklers for "no excuses." But, this game is completely different and it really is just a meaningless exhibition for the program.

I completely disagree with it being meaningless because this isn’t a step forward at all.
Go back to 2015. We fired Miles and Co. - well nevermind - nothing changed. Great defense. ZERO Offense yet he promotes his buddy. So predictable.
9-4 isn’t a step forward IDGAF about perception of bowl games. Win or get out.

I agree with this. I just don't agree that the staff, in its current state, will actually do something with the "back in it" talk.

I never said I believed the staff, as it is now, will win any championships. From what I've seen, it won't.

Ensminger and Cregg still have a lot to prove. We don't know who the WR coach is going to be and I still want to see a dedicated QB coach.

But you clearly aren’t part of some mega PR machine

This part is true.

AND I'm not saying I don't welcome the idiots who follow me around, but I don't go out of my way to attract them.

There's just some weird people on this board. I'll start a thread about the women's basketball team winning a game and you would think I insulted some of the poster's mothers.

Someone melted in the thread last night and was trying to tell everyone how great the ULL coach is, and I think it was for me to shove the LSU coach up my butt or something similar. Just because I posted that LSU won, had five players score in double figures and one player had a career high in points scored. Was that a troll thread? NO !!! But after reading the most awesome melt, you would think I trolled the hell out of that person.

Here it is. This is from a two sentence post I made about what players had done in the game. To top it off multiple posters disputed his claims of the ULL coach's excellence.

Go back and read the first thing that I posted on this. I said it's meaningless to the success of the future of the program. I also said that of course the players and fans want to win the game. It is two totally seperate things. Players don't play to lose and fans don't watch to see them lose.

I agree with this and the staff will have the players to compete if they utilize/develop them right.

Unless something catastrophic happens before the season starts, 2019 is the "show me" season. Right mix of talent and experience as well as a favorable schedule.

I actually like us playing Bama away. It takes the pressure off the players and they seem to play more loose there. UF at Tiger Stadium in what feels like a decade and A&M @home.

[quote]Winning guarantees a top 10 pre-season ranking for the first time since 2016.[/quote
we are #11 right now in both the coaches and AP polls, so it should also guarantee a top 10 end of season finish for the first time since 2011. While no individual games mean anything for the long term success of the program, for the short term this is a pretty big game for what it means to the program. Getting back into the top 10, while no huge achievement for a program like LSU, is still a good first step in getting back to where we need to be as a program. It is a bench mark that we hit with regularity during the programs glory years from 2001-2011, achieving it 7 out of those 11 seasons. It is big for the perception of the program.

For "hate" and "bashing" directed towards the head football coach.

Now every post I have concerning him I have to point out that I'm listing facts and that listing facts isn't hate or bashing anyone, just so there's no misunderstandings.
