Well, LSU lost the bowl and finished outside the top 15. One could easily argue that this played a part in the below standard recruiting finish.

This year's class after an entire season of recruiting following that loss was top 5. LSU won the bowl game the season before last year's class.
Eta: Last year was the early signing period which came before the bowl game as did this season.

And therein lies the problem. We got rid of Les to bring in...Les 2.0, or would it be Les 1.2?
Recruiting, soundbites, and mediocre results in comparison of the money, talent, and prestige LSU possesses.
Hiring buddies, and people way past their prime does not make a good coach. I would hate to see who he would have gotten for defensive coordinator if Aranda wasn't already on staff.

I get what you're saying, but I think the optics of the program can swing massively based on the result of this game, not only within the fanbase, but outside as well.
Beating UCF isn't itself the ultimate payoff. A top-10 finish and a major bowl win would be things fans and recruits can point to as tangible evidence for an upward trajectory. It could absolutely springboard us into the next season like the Sugar Bowl over Notre Dame or Cotton Bowl over A&M did.
Another 9-4 finish with a bowl loss to an AAC team will have people wondering if we're still stuck in the same gear from the end of Les' tenure.
