Program you build is similar to an nfl system of revolving door, and players have 0 commitment to a program, university, staff, etc.

Yoi have much more roster stability in the NFL today than you do in college football. And sadly, probably just as much, if not more loyalty to your team. .

no, it's worse. Far worse.

Zero continuity on rosters. Combined with NIL, it's a feeding frenzy with players putting themselves up for sale every year, knowing they can immediately play at their transfer school.

All of this may be good for the players' bank account, but it's terrible for the game and for the fans. There's zero connection to the players.

Eventually, fan interest will wane - it's already decreased for me. I watch far less college football as I did a few years and read less commentary.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you. The game has changed significantly and we can either watch it or not. Accept this is what it is and that we can’t change it by bitching about it. If there are that many people who hate it and can’t stand what it’s become, stop watching it. The only way it’s gonna change is by having a mass exodus of fan engagement. If a person isn’t willing to do that then that person should stop bitching about it and take it for what it is. It’s not changing if you are still watching.

It’s a matter of opinion. If you like pro ball I guess it’s good. If you loved college ball for what it was it’s worse. The idea that these are student athletes any longer is a complete joke. Things will continue to evolve tho because the current situation is not sustainable

But the portal gives an entirely different dimension. I'm excited to start going through the new portal players I haven't seen and looking up highlights/stats.

So it adds something new, but it’s still definitely worse. & HS recruiting means less bc majority of them will not end their careers at LSU

I disagree. It feels very pay-for-play and hollow, like the NFL. It's not as interesting or unique of a product as it used to be.

And it's been a done deal for years now but losing New Year's Day as the big payoff for the college football season was a big blow. It hasn't been the same since.

It's looks more like a professional sport now.

Players will have to sign contracts soon.

Oh it’s much worse. The two weeks or so is added excitement, but doesn’t nearly make up for the failure of it. I enjoy knowing our players before like week 10

Then put in work.

If you like competitive football, this era is objectively better.

correct.

The difference between pro and college ball was the emotional connection to the players and the university. And of course the pageantry.

But with players jumping from team to team every year, that emotional connection is gone. They're just mercenaries.

"Hollow" is the perfect word for it.

We already have a pro league (which I don't watch). We don't need another.

I don't think I buy that. I think the feeling of "emotional attachment" to the players is a retroactive narrative. Do LSU fans feel any less "emotionally attached" to Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, or Tyrann Mathieu? Each only played at LSU for two seasons. In fact, you could argue that historically the roster turnover in the NFL is less volatile than in college. For the last 30 years or so the very best players in college were leaving after 3 seasons. Many NFL contracts keep guys in one spot for 3+ years. The bottom line is you (and I) cheer for the "colors". It doesn't matter who is wearing those colors in that particular year. If they are playing in an LSU uniform you are going to cheer for them...because you are an LSU fan, not a (insert player) fan. You are only a fan of the player BECAUSE he is wearing an LSU uniform...not a fan of LSU because LSU is the team that player happens to play for at the time. The "names" have always changed. The brand/program hasn't.

The product on the field is worse so it’s definitely worse.

Exactly. If doesn’t seem to be affecting ratings yet but that’s probably propped up by the t shirt fans and massive expansion of online/mobile phone gambling. I don’t know any fans in real life who like where college football is headed. Why should we be loyal to players who aren’t loyal to us as their fans?

This is an unpopular opinion but dynasties are good for sports. Look at home game attendance for Alabama during the hey day of the Gumps— the chance to upset, however unlikely, drives attention. Or for my fellow old farts remember the Cowboys or 49ers coming to the dome?

Do you think a home and home with Indiana in 3 years will drive the same interest?

Yes parity is good for We Suck At Football U.

It's much worse.

Even saying it's different does not tell the whole story. It's so different that it is no longer the same game. And that makes it worse.

Exactly. It dehumanizes the players even more and makes them assets that can be pick up or disposed of on a whim. There is not buy-in of the players from fans; All glory to the program. Just take the names off the jerseys; Replace them with "Quarterback '26".
