I said this team would be lucky to finish with 10 SEC wins about a month ago. Where’s my cookie?

“Defense is an infinitely bigger concern. We have been awful so far in the field” got downvoted.

“Arguably our deepest pitching staff ever” and “One thing people are dismissing is how much better and dependable the pen looks right now.” got upvoted.

Just shows how even the posters on here that will never admit to being wrong don’t always know what they are talking about

If we went back and looked at a similar thread in each of the previous 4 seasons, the people who took a definitive negative stance would have been just as wrong. Expecting improvement certainly wasn’t some outlandish prediction back in February.

Say what you want, but the fact is this season has been the outlier. People will naturally use past performance as a predictor, especially when they have multiple seasons of evidence to draw from. Hopefully a progression back toward the mean is in order for next season.

I know. I never said this only relates to fans that are positive.

I never said it was. I also expected improvement at that point.

I guess you had every player on your teams pegged in the first 3 weeks of the season every year, coach.

On paper, this staff should have been very deep. And this post was from Feb, when we were all just projecting. But no one stepped up like Cowan did last year. No freshman made a move like Evans. Then we had the injuries, which just compounded the problems. The guys left didn’t develop as the season went on like we’ve seen the previous 4. Most of them regressed. It’s the first time we’ve seen that under Jay with 2 different pitching coaches.

I was one of the people who gave up on the 23 team’s chances because of how bad the bullpen fell off late in the season. Remember the State game Mother’s Day? Giving up a 9 run lead at home to lose due to the pen melting down right at the end of the season? After they flipped the switch and we won the title thanks to the performances of several guys not named Skenes and Floyd, I gave the staff the benefit of the doubt last year when we had bullpen issues. And they came around again. I gave them that same benefit of the doubt for a while this year because of past performance. I was wrong. Sue me.

After the Jacksonville tourney my exact post was Brown, Yorke, Bide and DarDar in the middle of this lineup is gonna wreck SEC pitching. I should be banned for that lol

Thanks for posting, once this season ends early next week we’ll see all the pumpers back pumping 27 like they did here. Though the warning signs were there in spades.

Well, you ended up being right on 1 of the 4. Brown should have been better. Makes you wonder if he was having some issues before he actually broke his hand. But he at least had some moments vs a few SEC teams.

Bide started slow vs a lot of bad Non Con teams to the point where I gave up on him, but he ended up smoking a lot of good SEC pitchers down the stretch once he got it going.

I mean it was more than that. There were people saying “there is nothing to be concerned about” and “our deepest pitching staff ever” and downvoting someone for being concerned about the defense lol. It’s was much more than people saying that they think the pitching will improve.
