February wasn’t the time to be concerned when you’ve seen Jay have young or rebuilt teams start slow but end the season playing their best ball. The 22 team had less overall talent than this one when you take the freshmen into account and how poor the pitching was on that team and still came together and performed better. Improvement across the board to a good, if not great level, was natural to expect.

After the OU and Vandy series, the concern was pretty warranted. And the issues ended up not really remaining the same. With Evans and Moore pitching and some of the bullpen still pitching functionally, we were in a lot of close games. It was the missed plays on defense and cold bats that killed us in a lot of those early season losses.

Now the bats aren’t the main problem and usually give us enough to compete and the infield defense has been a good bit better than the early season other than Catcher. But the pitching has gone off the rails and the passed balls and wild pitches just gave away runs, along with the walks and HBPs.

not with the takes unanimously unopposed. There may be some better ones more recent with some opposition we can apologize to

It probably wasn’t the time to be making predictions about being the deepest pitching staff ever either huh

Sure. I mean, I’ve been wrong before. It was just a LOT more fun in 2023.

You know what, I think you were right with your assessment that there was nothing to be concerned about with the pitching staff

If we went back and looked at a similar thread in each of the previous 4 seasons, the people who took a definitive negative stance would have been just as wrong. Expecting improvement certainly wasn’t some outlandish prediction back in February.

Let them take their victory lap.

Speaking for my own comments, saying things like “ Let’s just see how he and Evans grow into the roles” and “ It takes pitching these guys and letting them work it out in game action to see who can be relied on in SEC play and beyond” weren’t exactly out of pocket or even wildly optimistic for Feb.

My comments must not have been too crazy since you at least partially agreed with a couple of them in that thread….

I guess Mr. Contrarian bookmarked this one because he didn’t like getting 40 DVs for his first comment in the thread, which is undoubtedly why we are all rehashing here this evening.

Boosie is a fence riding dipshit who lives to “gotcha” people on this site.

She never makes any predictions or definitive statements and tries as hard as possible to stay completely neutral.

When LSU is good, she is there to call out all the people who were negative. When LSU is bad, she is there to call out all the people who were positive.

Yeah. He was no doubt trying to call out a few specific posters, but he's too big of a bitch to come right out and say it.

I pointed out in the thread that people freaked out early last season about the pitching staff as well. That part is factual.

I pointed out it would be a different pitching staff from last year, where we might not get the length from the starters from last year. That ended up being true.

I pointed out the the strength seemed to be the number of quality arms we had (based on previous outings, summer ball, fall/spring ball). That part turned out the be incredibly wrong, and was the downfall of this team.

I mean I don't think it was wild to expect the thing that's happened for the last 3 years to happen again this year.

Actually I didn’t. I stumbled upon it while I was looking at friendlyobservation’s old posts. I wish I was better about bookmarking certain posts that could help prove points I’m trying to make. The last post that I have bookmarked is from September of last year of some guy that was upset that fans were criticizing Brian Kelly lol

You and plenty of others on here do that as well.

I make plenty of predictions, but you’re correct that I don’t really make any definitive statements unless I can back them up with facts. I usually try to preface that it’s my opinion. Many others on here like to pretend that they know all. And I don’t think trying to be neutral is that bad of a thing.

I mean I quoted their exact posts and have responded to some of them in this exact thread.
