Has been stellar. IMO, we're watching some of the best staff management since I don't know when.

And apart from Hilliard and Hasty didn't seem like any others had their A-game this weekend.

CJJ has cobbled together a very effective pitching staff. Impressed.

This is with 0 returning weekend staters, which is not the norm.

Early Skip. He did have a shite load of MLB pitchers though.

One of my complaints about PM was that he would leave pitchers in too long. He would start an inning without anyone warming up and with a pitcher who was about to run out of gas, and then he would let the pitcher get into deep trouble before having someone to start warming up.

JJ takes the opposite approach--he is very willing to give a pitcher a short leash and make a pitching change at the first sign of real trouble. He can do this because he has a deep pitching staff with a lot of moving parts. I very much like what he is doing with his pitching staff.

this also allows him to throw a guy 2 or 3 times in a weekend if they didn't have it one day. The alternative would be to extend the guy and waste him on a bad outing, which is what PM would do.

The only thing I worry about is health. We're not extending bullpen guys (or any guys, really) much, but several are pitching 2 and 3 times a week almost every week. I'm not saying it's bad, just something I'm concerned with. You generally don't see that until the end of the season and postseason, when you're basically pushing guys to the limit, knowing that they're going to get a break soon.

You already see some laboring at times. Don't just watch the radar gun. That's a poor tell. Watch location/command. Reyz, Taylor, Collins, and Gervase all labored this weekend. To the OP, Jay has done well recognizing it and making a move. But, I just wonder if it gets better (guys ramp up from being pushed) or worse (guys just fade from being pushed).

I noticed it too. So many were "off" their A-game.

The performance of Hasty was encouraging.

Absolutely going to need some other guys to take some stress off of the main guys. Hasty should help. Viet has helped and will help. Need to keep working to find a role for Floyd - maybe it's as a week day starter for now. Need to look at Edwards and Shaffer again, maybe even Fowler and Lansville - I'm not talking big innings, but just some guys used as a bridge that are a bright surprise that end up giving you extra.

Its a blast to watch. I'm so damn impressed with the work this staff has done with the pitchers.

Its solid through and through. Thats the kind of staff that makes tourney runs.

I'd let Floyd try to go deep on Tuesday and if he looks good again you move him to the weekend to take some pressure off the other guys. If the curve is working then maybe it's as a Long Reliever or maybe even a starter if Money doesn't improve.

The other guys you mentioned need to start getting innings on weekdays. We have to quit using Reyz, Gervase, Collins, Taylor, and Cooper on Tuesday. I'm fine with Fontenot in addition to the guys you mentioned

Absolutely. They need to be fresh for the weekend and other guys need to prove themselves.

This is the best baseball coaching staff at LSU since 1996-97

I expect Floyd to start against UNO, but I don't know how deep they let him go. They want him back on the weekend, in some capacity. After Floyd, they just need to sequence something like Hasty, Hellmers, Edwards, Shaffer, Lansville, Fowler. Cut Floyd at 2-3, cut Hasty at 1-2, but let whoever else just go.

ETA: I got downvoted when I said Floyd looks the same, except for being more loose and in the game up there. They were just calling more breaking balls. It's not his fault if they don't call breaking balls then expect him to miraculously be able to land one after 25 fastballs. If they want him to be able to land breaking balls that late in outings, they need to run his bullpens like that. You can see the same with Reyz at times. He's all gas, then sails a breaking ball after 25 fastballs. Well, duh. Both have great breaking balls when they mix them in more often.

This isn’t necessarily a good thing. We’ve seen it multiple times already with Reyzelman and Gervase. Pitching guys 3-4 times a week isn’t good or necessary until Omaha.

Riley Cooper was very good, Taylor did fairly well, Gervase was a stud.
