Every article, commentator calls them "Louisiana" or "University of Louisiana"
One clever thing they did was to change the team name from "Raging Cajuns" to "Louisiana's Raging Cajuns" and that was enough to convince the towering intellects of sports journalism that they were in fact "Louisiana". Sleazy as hell, but clever in the lowest sense of the word. The agreement on joining the University of Louisiana system was that no school would claim to be THE University of Louisiana. ULL broke their word before the ink was dry.

I find it very disrespectful to LSU and its brand.
His has no impact on LSU and why would it disrespect LSU ? LSU is the flagship school and always will be. I just think that it is sad and pathetic that ULL continues to call themselves the University of Louisiana when they are not.

*Edit: Maybe my concern is individuals claiming they have a degree (using that terminology). I went to the state institution and received my diploma. I LOATHE the comparison.*
This makes it seem even more petty.

I would be pissed about it if I went to ULM, considering the history of the UL system. But I couldn’t care less whether someone says they went to “Louisiana,” or “University of Louisiana,” or whatever. It has absolutely zero impact on me as an LSU grad.
And even ULM grads don’t have that much room to be pissed considering the histories of the two universities. ULL is an older school, has twice the enrollment, a considerably larger endowment, and is the only other R1 public school in Louisiana (aside from LSU). If a school were to take the “Louisiana” moniker, it would clearly be ULL. Their gripe really comes down to the (political) agreement when the current University of Louisiana System was formed.
Again, though - that doesn’t matter one bit for LSU grads. People/companies who actually care about undergraduate program prestige are more than capable of distinguishing between the schools. And people who don’t care.. well.. they don’t care, so what difference does it make?

UL is fine. Not worth the bother.

There are a LOT of other things that bother me. And for the record Cajuns are usually not Raging.

Couldn’t care less. Do Ohio State fans get mad at the university of Ohio for not calling themselves UOA? Everyone knows we’re the flagship. They can call themselves whatever they want.

ULL is a little brother. Even though you know you always win, you put them in their place when they deserve it. And people know exactly what they’re trying to do when they refer to themselves as UL or Louisiana. I never mind putting them in their place when I hear that and I think anytime they try and fake what their name is they should be shamed.

They really are USL to us old guys!

Never truly understood ‘Flagship’ school and could care less what they want to name their school.
If I were them, I wouldn’t want to be USL or ULL and would prefer UofL. What difference does it make to us?

Not their name. It’s ULL or UL@L

More disrespectful to ULM than anyone else. But if it makes them feel better.

I’m sorry you feel so intimidated by another university. Florida, Texas, Oregan, Ohio, Indiana, etc. the list goes on for States with two major universities. BTW, with the name change, Louisiana dropped it’s double directional status. And yes, Louisiana by student body, is the second largest university in the state. As for athletics, yes Louisiana has a long way to go if they ever want to be on the same competitive level as LSU. Meanwhile, chill out!! No reason to have a stroke!!! Go Louisiana!!!!!!!!
