I like their stadium. It is just too much damn red though. I like a little contrast here and there.

their seats, grass, and maybe suites look nicer. But, the overall design and look of the Box is better.

I don't think USCe built their baseball field in North Americas largest floodplain...

And at the time these photos were taken, it was obviously overseeded with Rye which makes it look much greener than it would in a few months.

think the new box needs the chairbacks down the lines also

Have any of you sat in the LF or RF down the line bleachers?

I DONT WANT chairbacks out there. The bleachers we have are great! They have far more room than the chairback have and you can relax more without being retricted in a seat with arm rests. Im not sure about the upper level bench backs but the lower level bench backs are awesome!

ETA FWIW now Im comparing the green seats to the bleachers and I prefer the bleachers.

I sat in the suites for the Nova series and based on pictures, the USC suites aren't near as nice.

Can you explain this?

Alex Box stadium is built on a flood plain of Mississippi river silt.

USC has the benefit of a nice red clay based soil foundation, so it looks.

Purely a function of geography/geology.

There's that big body of water about 1/4 of a mile to the west of the Box called the Mississippi River. For thousands of years, river silt has been deposited on the ground where the Box now stands. You can dig down and remove as much dirt, sand, etc as you want, but there's still a difference in settling, growth and pH levels that come with that.

Not to mention, water continues to move under the levee when the river is high. There were a number of boils that existed within the 500 year flood plain of the MSR.

FYI: The "hill" the band marches down for football games is a result of deposits from the natural levee the river created before the man-made one was built in the 20's.

South Carolina's is very nice indeed. I've always though that it looked better than the new box.

and it had been raining... which made the dirt look really 'rich'

their scoreboard

yea, that's pretty dumb

our scoreboard - jumbo tron is by far the greatest in all of college baseball and better than a lot of AAA ball stadiums!

The only thing that I like better about their facility is the playing surface. The turf looks awesome. Why the hell can't LSU get some decent looking turf on any of our fields?

USC's grass was planted mid-July during the growing season. LSU's was planted in mid-October, not so much a growing season. Give it time, LSU's will look a lot better and healthier come spring time.

Those people don't make any sense. Our video board is 70% larger and our overall scoreboard is 25% larger than USC's. Also, for some reason, USC decided to put their scoreboard 4 stories above their concourse level. It looks kind of out of place being so high. And makes their smaller-than-our-videoboard look even smaller.

I just looked at more of the galleries, they really got WAAAAYYY too cute with this stadium. I initially just saw the first baseline "box seats" about 200 feet from the field and the little mini berm.

I missed the porch deep down the RF line, the Minute Maid Park style bleachers in RF, and the super wide concourse that serves really no purpose.

I agree.

I'm glad, with the new Box, they didn't go with all these sort of contrived eccentricities.

That's becoming really a tired trend in recent baseball park design.

I also prefer the legitimate covered grandstand on the new Box, to that mostly decorative type roof on the S. Carolina one that doesn't look like it covers ANYTHING.

Exactly, and we built a traditional park with great sightlines, ample concourse movement, and a great backdrop.

The berm in RF (or some additional bleachers mimicking LF) will just top it off. Add the planned suites in the off-season, and this park is money and will put USC's to even more shame.

I'm fine with making the park with some neat things...but they just went over the top.
