The Miracle on Ice would have never happened if this committee were in charge in 1980. The USA team did not pass the eyeball test and it was certain the Soviets would win.

Olympic hockey is a tournament, though. They don’t tell Haiti that they can’t come. Everybody who shows up with a team gets to participate. If you keep winning, you keep playing. Not comparable.

For the people touting the 6-4 record for ACC vs SEC did anybody else take a look at the teams that includes? It’s a joke.
No games vs Bama or UGA
3 games vs bottom dwellers Vandy and USC a combined 7-17. C’mon man?

What's wrong with you? Don't try to talk good sense and facts on this board, lol.

Also, not like UF and TAMU lit it up. 5-7 and 7-5.

Thank you. USA showed up as an underdog and killed it in the group round. Had there been a committee for the medal round, there's no way they keep USA out given their record and performance.

I like Drew Brees suggestion. Have them play for the right to be in the Playoff....Heads up FSU - Alabama Winner is in. Good TV, another game to watch I like the idea.

Drew Brees is not a smart man. We didn’t need any more evidence of it, but this suggestion is further proof.

No. No.

That's not how that works.

The result is not determinative of whether it was a good decision.

If I get completely drunk and drive myself home but don't die, that doesn't make it a good decision to drive drunk.

If I cheat on my wife and she never finds out, that doesn't make it a good decision to cheat on her.

If I fire my gun into a crowd but no one gets hurt, that doesn't make it a good decision to open fire.

If the CFP Committee chose Texas A&M and they beat Washington, that doesn't mean choosing A&M was a good decision.

So, no, if Bama beats Michigan or wins it, or if Georgia beats FSU, that doesn't mean the CFP Committee got it right.

THIS 1000%....situation ethics is what that is. It's never right to do the wrong thing so that right comes of it.

Alabama was no more deserving than FL ST. They lost by 14 to Texas that played a weak schedule. They struggled with South FL and needed a miracle to beat 6 win Auburn. FL ST was UNDEFEATED with a great defense and a month to get their 2nd string QB ready. There are absolutely no OBJECTIVE facts that support anything other than FL ST getting in.

Or you should look at the teams they beat and then shut up. SC, Vandy, TAMU, and UF are hardly impressive.

No more deserving = equally deserving, so everything is cool.

Texas arguably played a tougher schedule than FSU. Opponents' combined win loss record:

Texas: 90-67
FSU: 77-79

Hard to argue FSU had it tougher when their opponents lost more games than Texas' opponents. Even more compared to Bama.

You seem to have trouble identifying the facts then. That's a you problem not a committee problem.

Bama and Texas: Better SoS; Better conference CCG win over better opponent.

FSU: 1 less loss.

The ironic thing is that - once again - the BCS would have handled this better than the stupid committee. Michigan and Washington would have gotten in and the gripes would have been much less.

That said, I fully expect the 3 and 4 ranked teams to win in the semis. That should help quiet the complaints.

The more you watch the reactions to the FSU snub….
I don't care how the fans feel or how the general public feels.

But what they did to those players is absolute horrid. Telling them to kick rocks because their teammate had the audacity to get hurt? Absolute joke.

Just absolutely minimizes all the hard work they put in.

If Jordan Travis gets hurt 10 minutes left in the ACC championship, they still go. 100%. Same scenario, different results.

They moved the goalposts to shoehorn bama in, and it's disgusting.

Agreed. My question, if the 'committee' wanted to claim that FSU was a 'different team' after Travis got hurt, then why did they """""""""K.E.E.P.""""""""" them at #4 in """THEIR""" rankings ??????? FSU was STILL #4 in their rankings BEFORE last Saturday and going into last Saturday's title games. Two other teams in their 'Top 4' won their games, and MOVED UP 1. FSU ALSO won their game.........and FELLLLL ??????? And worse, their pre-Saturday #4 ranking in the 'committee's CFP rankings meant NOTHING, as they vaulted a team who was number """""""""""""""" E.I.G.H.T."""""""""""""" going into last Saturday's games - FOUR SPOTS ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? WTF does that even mean ??????????????????????????

If they're saying that #8 ala. SOARED FOUR SPOTS from #8 to #4 BECAUSE they beat the #1 team, then why did they drop the "#1" team to number SIXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ?????????+

The outcome of the decision is moot in judging whether the methodology of the decision was correct.

Trying to justify a bad decision by the outcome was the topic, so…

quote:

2011: Not a CFP year, so how is this relevant?

People justify the bad decision of putting Bama in the National Title game by using the outcome. I realize it was done through polling rather than a committee.

quote:

2014: What happened that was so bad here? All four teams were conference champions with 1 or 0 losses.

Ohio State, which lost by two scores at home to a 6-6 Va Tech team, was selected ahead of TCU which was more deserving, probably Baylor too.

It doesn’t matter that OSU wound up winning, they didn’t deserve to be there.

quote:

2017: not an easy decision this year. Ohio St was a 2-loss conference champion. UCF was undefeated but a weak schedule. Wisconsin was a 1-loss conference runner up like Bama. I would have preferred Bama not get in, but it wasn't an indefensible decision.

Bama was NOT a conference runner up, they were a division runner up whose last game before being selected was a 12-point loss to Auburn. Fwiw, Wisconsin lost by 6 to Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship.

Simply put, there was NO JUSTIFICATION for putting Alabama in the playoff over Auburn in 2017 - and no one in their right mind was trying to put Auburn in the playoff.

I think it will be opposite of this. Then they will have some substantiated scrutiny.

The Pac-12 is also a joke. But no one questions Washington's position in the playoff.

Hell, their 3rd best team lost to the 3rd worst team in the SEC.

They boast non-conference wins over 4-8 Michigan St., 5-7 Nebraska, 3-9 Baylor, 6-6 Texas Tech, 5-7 TCU, and 5-7 Florida.

The Pac-12's best nonconference win was against 7-5 Wisconsin. They're 7-3 against other P5 conferences, but have no ranked wins and only 1 loss to a ranked team.

The SEC's P5 record sucks, but at least 3 of those losses came to top-5 teams.

I've said it in another thread, what makes Washington so great other than 2 wins over Oregon. And what makes Oregon so great that those 2 wins mean so much.
