LSU does not have the depth to compete for championships at this point in time.
Our starting 22 is as good as just about anyone. Our second 22 is not.
When I look at this past game, I can't help but think we win if Brumfield, Taylor, Ingram, Chaisson, phillips were able to play. Florida took advantage of our True Freshman and R.S. freshman lbs., We didn't have enough pass rush from the edge, and our line didn't protect well enough or block well enough in the run game. Brumfield would have helped the run game for sure.
While we have improved some of the gaps on the top 22, we have to build depth to sustain injuries and suspensions throughout a season.
I think back to the 2011 and 2007 teams. RJF was suspended, we had the depth with Dorsey, Nevis, Alexander, Livingston etc to sustain the loss. When Matt Flynn got hurt, R.P. won us a s.e.c. championship. When TM7 was suspended Ron brooks stepped up. When Spencer ware went down, Kenny Hilliard had his best season.
I think sometimes we jump to bash the coaches in a loss w/o looking at what kind of hand they were dealt. Aranda was dealt a hand where he didn't have two potential all sec players on the field in Chaisson and Phillips, nor did he have a guy the quality of Taylor. Therefore, the run defense suffered.
I would hope we can start to slow down the Junior attrition. I could only imagine this team with Weathersby, Clapp, Tolliver, Key, Guice etc. Keeping them all is unrealistic. However, keep 1/2 and you have n.c. quality depth.

Bad title --
But I agree. Depth/injuries showed some weakness. With that said, we still could have and should have won the game.
We've got a real shot the rest of the season. This team plays tough.
I look forward to the new recruiting class, which is shaping up really nicely.

Gainesville at 2:30 in early October is a tough spot to win. We're 5-1 with a huge 3 game stretch in front of us, all at home, with everything to play for. I'm not deterred by the loss on Saturday. It is important for the fans to make Tiger Stadium a very difficult place to play for away teams over the next month.

To some degree I agree, but the OL was as "healthy" as it's been all season and got thoroughly dominated.
On the other side I think it's time to admit that the DL was overrated coming into the season. Believe me, I drank the kool aid. I was sure this group was going to be the best group (overall) since 2012. Unfortunately, Lawrence and Fehoko have proven to be good, but not consistent game-changing players. Alexander flashes occasionally, but not consistently and Shelvin can't even make the travel roster. Logan and the 2nd team guys are just average.
The loss of Chassion certainly hurts, but other than Divinity, occasionally, there is very little pass rush from the OLB's. The only time LSU seems to be assured of pressure is if they bring Delpit off the edge or White up the middle.
Florida definitely has players. Mullen is a good coach. But to watch Florida's running game physically kick LSU's arse again (just as they did in 2016) is troublesome.

The loss of Chaisson has really hurt the defense against athletic teams, and the the additional injuries up front with a merry-go-round of a front 7 is not helping when you play on the road against a well coached team with comparable talent.
Offensive line has 2 starters out (ingram and brumfield) and 2 coming off injuries to play (Charles and Cushenberry)... Oline played well against really good defensive fronts in Miami and Auburn, but with the shuffling and lack of game readiness, it caught up against Florida.
All in all, Florida played well and won the game up front on both sides of the ball. I wish LSU could've been healthier along the lines, but they've played a tough, demanding schedule that isn't going to let up for the rest of the season. Gotta buckle up and overcome the adversity.

O hired E thats the #1 problem.(or you can say Avella hired O) Yeah depth is an issue but we have bigger issues than depth

Couple depth win the inability to call an offense around our weaknesses, and I agree. I think its. Bit premature to assume we will compete for NC right away. But, we are not using our offensive tools appropriately, IMO. Lots to be desired.

I don't believe the WRs are. Sullivan dropping that ball that was a dead on strike was really deflating. This team can't overcome negative plays, or penalties that cancel very productive plays, against stout competition. DL is overrated, LB play is very uneven, DBs are getting better as a group. RBs are serviceable but not elite, OL needs massive work pass blocking, etc. People can keep pointing to the loss of Chaisson, but do we know what he really would have done this season? Certainly more than the guys who have tried to replace him, it also points to lack of depth at a critical position in Aranda's scheme. Out of all that, LSU shot themselves in the foot many times last Saturday and are not explosive enough to overcome those lost plays and the punt returner position is a black hole of ineptitude. Maybe the Tigers catch some lucky breaks in upcoming games and steal some wins, who knows.
Out of all that, I'm disappointed in the WR group, Jefferson excepted. Before all the Burrow, time needed to gel, etc when passes hit guys in the hands and the ball is not caught, well that has zero to do with timing with the QB.

It was a one drop. It happens. They are a good group. Better o-line play and I think you see them flourish. 6 different offensive lines in 6 different games is just not helping. Magee at l.g. isn't optimal. Brumfield at left guard and Magee at r.t. would have been much better for the run game and pass game.

Brumfield being hurt was a big loss. Magee is coming off an injury and just looks slow even at guard. Also, Charles clearly wasn't 100%. Still, those Fla DE's were good.
When you can't protect the QB, it's tough to pass. When JB was given time, he threw some nice passes. As good as Jefferson has been, he had 2 huge drops in this game alone. One of which may have been a TD.
Defensively, the lost of KC was huge. We simply don't get much rush out of that position. Phillips being hurt may have been the single biggest factor of this game. I truly believe he makes some of the big tackles we missed in this one.
This team is good. Depth keeps us from being better than good. Let's see how they react this week at home against a much better team than Fla.
