Stop trying to act smart, it is not working for you. He's putting 3 down lineman, he moved BJ to standup outside linebacker. At times Mike Jones, Backersville, and even Clark playing standup outside linebacker on the line of scrimmage.

It is a 3-4 bear look.

Arky game till now it's apparent that Coach O was meddling in some way with Defensive playcalling.

Again you were trying to act smart but got this wrong. It was the Alabama game to this point. Arkansas to this point would be two games, Arkansas and ULM.

You guys that believe everything the tv talking heads say. These two guys may have measureables that earned them 5 stars in HS, but neither has played at an "elite" level.

Stingley played at an Elite level in 2019.

Ricks had an Elite season last year.

To say neither has played at an Elite level is ignorant and incorrect. This year they have not played at an Elite level only because they really haven't played much.

Correlation is not causation. The defense got better because the play calling got aggressive. Instead waiting and reacting to the offense, the defense took the initiative in the last few games. Had they done that earlier, maybe things wouldn’t be so bleak, but it doesn’t matter anymore. New start after this season.

ETA: It doesn’t matter how elite the corners are. If the defense isn’t doing anything to affect the QB and disrupt the rhythm of the offense, they will get beat. There are too many good athletes out there for CBs to be lock down in coverage indefinitely.

A bunch of smooth brain takes in here, per usual anytime an elite player is not playing.

This team would unequivocally be better with both of them.

Defense sucked against Ole Miss and Florida without them. Got better when the scheme changed drastically. It has been better, but not because they’re out.

The defense has been better since Coach O got out the way and let Jones run a 3-4.

I can't recall a more glaring and immediate validation that the guy in charge is a COMPLETELE moron. For the better part of two decades LSU annually had, at minimum, a good defense (many times great). In the 4 years under Aranda the defense was, at worst, solid. They struggled 2/3rds of the way in 2019, but eventually came around and were dominant in the final 1/3rd of the season.

The moment Aranda left Orgeron gleefully celebrated being released from the shackles of Aranda's passive defense and the freedom that came with now being able to run his "aggressive" 4-3 defense where the DL were the stars of the show...just like Pete Carroll ran.....almost 20 years ago at USC. That defense IMMEDIATELY became the worst in LSU history and one of the worst in the nation. We all blamed Pelini...until LSU opened up vs. UCLA, with a new DC, and was just as bad. While the defense did improve slightly after that, and was slightly improved from the disaster the year before, it was by no means good.

Then, after getting blown out by Ole Miss and, apparently, Lane Kiffin telling Orgeron his defense sucked, LSU goes into the by week and COMPLETELY changes their approach from the crap Orgeron had been implementing for the better part of two season. The result? LSU puts on one of the more dominant performances against a good Alabama offense in years....with about half of the starters comprised of second team guys. They they follow that up bye suffocating Arkansas for most of the game.

The defense went from being in the bottom 1/3rd of the country to looking like one of the top 5 defenses in the nation. Due SOLELY to the fact they went against the dumbass HC's approach.

So no, the defense is not better because Stingley and Ricks are out. It is better because Orgeron is out.

All he had to do was recruit, stand on the sidelines like a clapping monkey, get the hell out of the way when it came to the gameplay approach/playcalling, and he would live life as one of the highest paid HCs in college football. He couldn't even fricking do THAT!!!!.

I agree. Stingley and Ricks were clearly the two most talented corners but there were always communication issues and blown assignments when they were out there. That has been cleaned up since they have been out.

The scheme has changed. We should have been doing this with Stingley and Ricks.

No team has really lit up LSU’s corners this year.

It’s been isolating LBs and safeties that has been the weakness of the pass D.

Defense got better when lsu decided to speed up the qb’s clock rather than ask those safeties and lbs to cover for extended periods.

OK. We’ll just ignore the fact that teams avoided testing either one while they were on the field.

Nope definitely never elite.

And 2020 and this year before he got hurt. I'm loving the revisionist history people are already writing about him because he got hurt and had surgery.

People love to shite on players when they don’t have a use for them anymore.

See Chase past year.

He was a bum who no NFL would want because he would quit.

Agree, the two players mentioned in the subject, were playing for their NFL careers not playing for LSU. Good luck and good riddance to Stingley and Ricks.
