New coaching staff inherits terrible DB situation. Portal is the only way to quickly rebuild. Portal is always a crapshoot. It paid off last year, but did not this year.

Don’t forget Greg Brooks was also a starter and a QB of the defense before his tragic illness. We have been decimated in the secondary all year long.

I don’t think we’ll see either one of them this season and it doesn’t look good for Zye. Welch looks to be in trouble as well. Nightmare scenario and it will be exposed against Bama I’m afraid. Holding out hope that guys like Hughes. Toviano, and Stamps play out of their minds.

Pure speculation on my part - but every article I read about chestnut mentions “he’s played in four games this season” - meaning he could still redshirt and preserve a year of eligibility. He’d have two left. Whether that is to continue to play at LSU, or to try to get a hardship waiver to transfer again I don’t know. Reading between the lines of “still on the team but inactive”, I think it’s the latter so I don’t expect him to return.

Seems like a good coach would think about moving a wide receiver ath. to db position unless the young guys step up
