Some have us higher or lower, I assume. But that seems about right.
I am sure some will jump on the accuracy of those rankings, but even giving it latitude....
Is this acceptable for our program?
Are we headed in the wrong direction in the bigger perspective?
I don’t know how fans cannot be alarmed at the last five year trajectory.

I think 95% of people are alarmed

The other 5% thought Les miles was still doing a good job when he got fired

We made a national title series like 3 years ago lol. Past 2 years have been disappointing as hell tho. I’d get rid of Paul because I love analytics and he doesn’t, but it’s not like the program is in the shitter. This team has the pitching to get to Omaha, hopefully the offense wakes the frick up

Hard to say at the moment. Ill decide at the end of the season. I do t decide these things in march, too much can and does happen

we won a title 3 seasons ago. The last 2 year and start of this year trajectory is worrisome

Will we have another team second week in April?

Reminder we were in the finals 3 seasons ago. But the demise of our offense does feel real since Cannizzaro left.

I know we faced injury in 2019, but that team was preseason #1 largely because of the veteran positional players and it’s undeniable the offense was extremely underwhelming.

So it does feel eerily similar to Miles, in that we have solid teams that win a good share of games. But major shortcomings on offense persist without remedy and ultimately cause the team to be limited and not reach the level one should expect as an LSU football and baseball fan.

LSU needs to get to Omaha at least this year or next year that’s a given for Mainieri.

While we’re on the subject of current rankings, the Rant’s coaching search of wanted coaches include the head coach of Michigan, Tennessee, and TCU. All three dropped from the top 25 this past week. Virginia is barely ranked.

Are they bad coaches? No. LSU is held to a higher standard.

we didn't win the only title that matters, we lost that to an sec rival.

Its the parity of the sport. 3 years ago most everyone wanted schlossnagle, and he hasnt done much the last few years. Same with brian oconnor, and he has had a losing conference record the last 2 years

I agree though, hitting the panic button in march is incorrect. If we flame out and don't host a regional this year then it should be the end for PM

I still want Vitello to replace CPM and I’m not even a fire CPM guy. I just think he is the next great coach in the sport.

McDonnell is the absolute first guy that Woodward calls. He’s been the sport’s best recruiter and coach for the last half dozen or so years

It’s a different world in college baseball ...Florida has had top tier classes for a long time now and have 1 CWS championship to show for it. Where has powerhouse Texas been? Or Miami? Or Arizona? Or Cal St Fullerton? Or Stanford? Or USC? Virginia was in a couple straight CWS champ games not that long ago ..winning 1 of them...where have they been lately ? S Car won 2 in a row...never to be heard from again. Parity is king right now.

I just don’t see him leaving Louisville. He is making a million a year. Current contract is until 2026 but he is basically on a lifetime contract at this point. Why would you give that up to come to LSU where they talk about firing you 3 years removed from a NC championship series and want to move on from you if you don’t win enough in Omaha specifically?

Vitello was the recruiting coordinator for TCU when they went on their streak of CWS appearances then was the recruiting coordinator at Arkansas before going to Tennessee. He is a great recruiter.

They are both solid candidates. And a good reason would be lsu has more resources, better name brand, and recruiting would be better. Not to mention the facilities.
And im not hating on vitello. Depending on how his team does this year he may jump to near the top of my list

I’ve seen Vitello actually have to coach on game day and it’s horrendous

Woodward can fundraise. I’m not worried about the money. Nobody shows up to Louisville baseball games. It’s cold and, while he’s had a good run, he’s hit a ceiling there in terms of not being able to punch through for titles.

Remember he was Jurichs guy. He’s no longer there. He also has an sec background from his days as an Ole Miss asst under Bianco. I think LSU is the premier job in the country and no coach who hasn’t been able to win a title elsewhere is turning that down with the amount of money Woodward is likely to offer him.

LSU is one of the few baseball programs in the country that operates in the black with a seven figure profit. You don’t think Woodward can outbid Louisville?

I have no doubt that LSU could outbid Louisville but there’s something to be said about building something and getting comfortable. He may look at everything he’s got going at Louisville and decide he doesn’t want to start from scratch at a place like LSU.

I do not believe we have a seven figure profit, but we do finish in the black.
