He gave us 2019.
With the talent on the 2019 team....a blind monkey could have coached that team.
You have to recruit the talent first that makes 2019 possible though.
Jamar Chase was headed elsewhere and Les Miles told him he couldn't play WR at LSU. Coach O and co. sent the entire coaching staff to his home to recruit him as a WR at LSU. Chase's dad kept saying he couldn't ignore that and Chase chose LSU on signing day.
Justin Jefferson was a basically unknown, unqualified 2-star that had zero power 5 school offers. O told him that if he qualified, he would still have a scholarship for him. And JJ's Coach said Coach O was diligent in recruiting him.
Bill Busch put Joe Burrow on Coach O's radar. Big credit to him. But again, Burrow was a backup with zero college accomplishments and most thought Myles Brennan was the QB of the future. O recruited Burrow hard after finding out more about him and Burrow said O is the one who personally persuaded him to go to LSU.
Right there alone, you have one of the best QBs in the NFL and possibly the two best WRs in the NFL now that Ed O recruited to play on that 2019 team. He played a huge part in getting the talent here that made what is considered by many to be the best college offense of all time. And he took a chance with hiring Joe Brady instead of just relying on his old pal like many coaches do. And it paid off tremendously.

There should be more animosity towards Miles than coach O. Miles wasted talent because he was stubborn.

He was the same person and coach prior to 2020 as he is after.

Covid was hard on everyone but we still blame Coach O.
2021 Florida arse whooping
2021 Almost beating Bama
Were signs that the kids didn’t quit on him

The two biggest pieces.. Burrow and Joe Brady?
Wrong on both counts.
Joe Burrow:
Burrow left Ohio State because he was told he wasn't going to be the starter. He looked around. He had two spots to consider: LSU and Cincinnati. At that time, Cincinnati was close to home, but not Power 5, had not yet made the playoff, and was barely more than a MAC team. LSU was Power 5, in the upper tier of the SEC, loaded with talent everywhere but QB, and well-known to take and play transfers at that spot. Mettenberger and Etling being obvious examples.
Aranda hired Bill Busch. Busch and Ensminger knew Jimmy Burrow. Dan Burrow was instrumental in convincing his brother to go to LSU.
With Busch and Ensminger at LSU, and with Cincy being the competition, a rabid baboon could have been the head coach at LSU and Burrow would have transferred to LSU. Orgeron was not a significant factor in the equation.
The choice between Cincinnati and LSU is obvious. But the thing that made the choice crystal clear was Bill Busch. Orgeron had zero to do with the choice made by Burrow. Yes, Orgeron pursued Burrow, and yes Burrow thanked Orgeron in his Heisman speech. However, the same thing would have happened regardless of who was the head coach at LSU. Whomever that head coach was would have pursued Burrow, and Burrow would have thanked that head coach in his Heisman speech. For example, Miles was an Ohio guy. The Burrow family were Ohio people. Burrow would have absolutely 100% have come to LSU if Miles was head coach.
Joe Brady:
Ensminger knew what he wanted to run for 2019, but he also knew that he was not an expert in that scheme. He knew there were details about the offense he wanted to run, such as specific responses to defensive looks, that he needed to learn.
Ensminger started doing more research, and he learned that Brady was a source of that information. Ensminger had a meeting with Brady; O was not at that meeting. Ensminger consulted with Brady about the details of the offense and decided that Brady knew the offense so well that Ensminger told Orgeron to hire Brady.
O lucked into a Natty with a defensive coordinator he inherited, an offensive coordinator who was already on staff, a passing game coordinator discovered by the offensive coordinator, and a QB who was coming to LSU in spite of Orgeron.

You realize Joe Brady was one of the top OCs in the NFL last year

and saying that doesn't make you an "O hater", it's just reality.
but there is a group of fans here that seem to think '18-'19 is the real Coach O and the the other 30+ years of his career are the anomalies.
looking at his career, it's highly unlikely he was ever going to repeat 2018 again, let alone 2019.

Loving him for 19 and hating him for what he did the two seasons following, both can be true.

I certainly dont hate him. His meteoric rise and fall is the most Orgeron thing that could have ever happened. He sucked his last two years and deserved to be fired for his on and off the field issues, but I'll always be thankful foe 2019.
Perfectly stated.

No I will never like Coach O or Les Miles. I appreciate the Championships they each brought us but they were both instrumental in the downfall to the program they once brought a Championship due to their stubbornness and ego.

The choice between Cincinnati and LSU is obvious
It wasn't at the time. Burrow was from Ohio and Cincinatti's coach (Luke Fickell) was Ohio State's Defensive Coordinator when Burrow was there. He had guaranteed him the starting job if he went to Cincy and Burrow was needing to get film on tape if he wanted a chance to be drafted at all.
LSU was being literally laughed at for hiring O after firing Miles and LSU's passing offense had been pathetic for years. So LSU wasn't in a great position. Orgeron thought Burrow wasn't even going to pick LSU because he didn't guarantee him that he'd start. Remember, Burrow had less than 30 insignificant passes in 3 years at Ohio State as a backup at the time.
Busch obviously was very important in the recruitment since he knew the Burrows and told O about him. But again, Joe Burrow was quoted as saying it was O who sold him on LSU. Call him a greasy used car salesman or whatever, but he has always been a good recruiter. I didn't want him to be LSU's coach and never imagined him winning an NC, but I have to give him credit for his part in helping to recruit our biggest impact players on that team.

You kinda have to take Ed O seriously as an elite HC to "hate" him.
That's hard to do, if you consider who he is: He was basically a good position coach who was overpromoted to HC at Ole Miss, where he failed quickly and convincingly.
But, he was always a good recruiter and excellent motivator. He is not smart, not disciplined and is immature in a lot of ways. He is a person with poor judgment. But he knew football well enough not to screw up what Brady/ Ensminger had going and what Aranda was doing. He helped keep the team highly motivated.
After he caught lightning in a bottle, he couldn't handle success, and he also lost his marriage. His weaknesses caught up with him.
That was just Ed being Ed. Shouldn't hate him for it.
