There is a lot more to being a real good rb than YPG…

Nobody cares. This is an lsu board. Almost every nfl team has lsu players on it, the bengals are not special. They are not our honorary nfl team. Please stfu about the bengals.

I have followed the Bengals pretty decently ever since Burrow was drafted there, and I think Cincinnati is in a really tough spot moving forward, even with Burrow there.

It would be best if you researched the time before Burrow too . It has been a shite show LONG before that last 5 years. I listened to an interview with Corey Dillion years ago. They are so cheap that they would go cheap on everything down to the locker room towels. As petty as that sounds, decent towels are cheap. Imagine owning an NFL franchise but being too cheap to give the players normal-size towels that didn't feel like they came from a cheap motel. The Bengals have always been a shite franchise and anyone paying attention knew that their 'ride' couldn't outlast Burrow's rookie contract unless something drastic changes.

It's the NFL. Teams can't pay everyone monster contracts. Even stars. The Bengals had it great when some of their biggest starts, Burrow, Chase, Higgins, were on rookie deals. But eventually it was going to get to a point where tough decisions had to be made.

Obviously the QB gets the most money. But I don't recall Burrow being willing to take a little less to spread more to other key players. I'm not saying he was wrong for not doing so, but he's taking up a huge chunk of the pie. Chase wants to be the highest paid WR in the NFL (or at least close to it...like Jefferson). However, Jefferson is on a team that isn't paying a massive QB salary. Chase may or may not get what he wants. Higgins won't.

But in the end, great QBs can overcome average WRs. Brady did it often in New England. Mahomes did it just last year. Locking up a ton of money in WRs and RBs is a bad business decisions. Obviously Chase is great. But there are more NFL starting caliber WRs and RBs than any other positions.

Way better than what they now…

Not much tread left on the tires though. Will he be in the league 3 years from now?

They’ll flirt with the wildcard every year just due to burrow and chase but I said this when they made that SB run. This won’t happen again. They had so much flukey stuff happen in their favor just to make it to the SB

if players are getting distracted by contract negotiations in the nFl your team is fricked.

Best thing ever for Burrow would be for Taylor to get fired. He makes some of the dumbest decisions I’ve ever seen from an NFL coach of a supposedly good team.

You’re correct regarding the owner having to deposit the guaranteed money into an escrow. Jerry Jones just had to deposit $331 Mil this year for his QB and WR, luckily for him he probably has this money.

If Chase wants to top Jefferson’s guarantees, Mike Brown would have to tie up another $110+ Mil in escrow in addition to Burrow’s $219 Mil. Thats over 10% of his estimated net worth, not liquid cash. He probably would take out some type of loan, but that would be extremely expensive. Why do that 2 years earlier than you have to?

No doubt the best chance at a 'ship was with Mixon in the fold.

They're going to have to stay healthy, draft VERY well and sign some savvy contracts to compete.

Burrow has not been the same since the contract. Definitely not the guy we knew at LSU.

The Bengals have lost 2 games by 3 points, one to the best team in the League. Their defense is terrible.

Burrow is now making huge money, and it just so happens the Bengals owner is the only guy who can’t give out multiple big contracts, as his only source of income is from his actual football team the Bengals. Respect to his family for what they built, but it’s almost not fair to the Bengals, that they have an owner who is capped out, and can’t compete with everybody else.

You realize the NFL is not like MLB where shitty franchises can just cut payroll to 1/4 of what teams actually trying to compete are spending?

NFL has a salary floor. So even if the team is trying to be cheap, they still have to spend at least 89% of the salary cap over a 4 year average.

when the QB is commanding that much of the salary cap the rest of your team will suffer

watch what happens with Dallas especially after they pay Parsons
