his inability to attract even mediocre defensive talent both on and off the field. I doubt if any of the current defensive coaches could get another job with a power 5 school.

I have faith Kelly will get it right. His history of hiring defensive staffs in his career is really good. Maybe house is the outlier.

Maybe the entire Defensive staff is an outlier.

Of course, we only have this offense due to Kelly bringing in and developing Daniels, but you conveniently leave that out.

Yep. Here's Kelly's hires since he's been a P5 head coach at DC.

Bob Diaco - Broyles award winner and finished with the 2nd ranked defense in points allowed.

Brian VanGorder- disasterous season and was fired.

Mike Elko- Really good DC that is now a promising HC at Duke.

Clark Lea- Was hired away to take the Vanderbilt HC job.

Marcus Freeman- Veyr highly thought of DC who took over the head job at ND.

His history of hiring has by and large been really good.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Matt House was what I would call a “bad hire.”

To me, a bad hire is a guy with obvious red flags and not much to inspire confidence from jump street. House was a guy that had SEC experience as a DC and had some good stats behind his name. Kentucky was top 10 in scoring defense in 2018. He had NFL experience as well as experience coaching the secondary & linebackers.

Now with that being said, it’s abundantly clear that things, for whatever reason, simply didn’t work out at LSU, but there was reason for optimism when the hire was made.

Does your smooth brain understand that CBK is also responsible for the incredible offense? Or did you think that was just total coincidence?

He was never the right hire. I can’t wait for him to get out of here

He probably has one big regret in running off Dwight McGlothern but overall he inherited a very poor situation.

The 2022 class was set when he got hired. Those guys are sophomores today.

His first true class is freshmen.

The transfer portal is not made to fill as many holes as they have had. Tho they have certainly tried.

Kelly attracted defensive personnel to ND like they never had before.

Our defense is broken right now but I’m confident Kelly will fix it.

My biggest beef with Kelly right now is the lack of energy and fire the team comes out with. I want to see players and coaches show more emotion. I just don’t see it with Kelly’s teams.

Definitely keep starting threads about only the bad things. Definitely. You seem to be very objective and you have a good grasp of all the facts. Good and bad.

And when you combine them both we still have 4 to 5 losses. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO GOOD ENOUGH

You act like he was given the offense and he didn't build it

The defense was supposed to be good. People were wrong and for various reasons.

No one is claiming Kelly screwed up on the offensive end, but the concern is how to fix a terrible defense. They play soft. No heart for many of the players. Kelly, being top Tiger is ultimately responsible for the ENTIRE team. Kelly has been spying the defensive practices, I'm assuming he's spying the coaches and I expect many changes on the defensive staff or the noise against Kelly will get louder, even though he'll still be here for a few more years at least. Tiger fans are very demanding.

My post was about the piss poor defense not the #1 offense. Reading comprehension isn’t one of your strong suits, is it?
