I remember when Brian Kelly first took the job I believed his business-like approach would be the fix LSU needed to great again. But nothing he ever did really stood out, whether recruiting or personnel-wise, and it was more the “potential” that he could eventually get us back to prominence.

Contrast that to what LK is currently doing, which is locking down some of the top talent in the country even when we’ve been without a HC for half the season, and already making sure to retain some great coaching. He’s not here to change the whole tradition and structure of LSU (which is what it felt like BK tried to do), but instead embrace and build upon it to create a monster.

BK was what we needed to get out of the mess we were in, but that's about it

Yeah I agree that BK probably put in some structure that was badly needed, but he didn’t have the juice to bring us back to the big leagues, just back to some sort of relevance.

Like I said the first day, he’s done more in hours than CBK did in days. I felt like when Kelly started he kept talking about what he was going to do without actually doing it. I have employees like that and it’s a pet peeve of mine. Quit talking about getting to work and get to work.

I can guarantee you I detest that little fricker more than anyone on this board, but you’re dead wrong here.

Our ranks were top 10 outside of ‘22-‘23 cycle per On3

2025 7th
2024 5th
2023 12th
2022 4th

Need to be fair in your hatred

If you remember lsu was coming off a very distracted orgeron and covid with a lot of help from ryan clark, a very divided program. They felt like they needed a senior coach to be the grown up in the room. Unfortunately it was what was needed at first. Long term horrible

The “adults” ran the program and it sucked.

Feels great to have the fun kid running it now

His recruiting was outstanding. It was his game planning, his in game adjustments and leadership skills that sucked.

100%.

LSU has always been at its best when there is a little crazy in the room.

Agreed. Lane is standing on business and actually doing the adulting adults didn’t do. He isn’t sitting on the golf course like a retiree.

Bk got off to a hot start recruiting too. He held the class together with Will Campbell, Jones, Howard, etc.

BK’s initial hires were what was confusing and odd to say the least. Hiring House was a weird hire. Kerry Cooks as safety coach made no sense. Getting ride of Raymond was dumb. I think his bad hires throughout his tenure is what ultimately did him in.

Contrary to the narrative, I remember a ton of posters’ apprehension over the reports/rumors Kelly did not speak to Raymond or Daronte Jones.

A lot of people wanted to retain those guys.

Pretty much everything that has happened since Lane was hired has been a home run, except the OL coach — and even there, this comes with the assurance that we are permanently rid of Brad Davis.

Blake Baker — five stars and a tip of the cap
Elijah Robinson — five stars
Kevin Smith — will be five stars

And whether it works out or not, attempting to retain Frank in a recruiting role shows the dude really has a finger on the pulse here.

Then you were not paying attention. LSU had gone toxic in the football program. BK was brought in to burn it to the ground and rebuild it. He did that but the product after a yr or two went south. They got rid of errrbody including the good like cutting out cancer. Cleaned out the locker room too.

Not a post to defend BK at all and I am enthused to see the Kiffin era

Mostly, it was his inability to hire competent coordinators.

LSU's inherent advantages don't mean much if your coach doesn't work like hell to leverage them. LK understands the bargain.

Let’s call it like it is. A bunch of woke liberals were running the show and it turned to shite. Bottom line.
