re: The announcers were really talking up the LSU job and the program

They were right. If Les Miles was fired after A&M last year and replaced with Ed Orgeron everyone here would have lost their damn minds. It is no different now.
They were right only if you put up resumes, however it is very different now and coach O has many things going right for him as follows:
Aleva said this is his audition (he is making the best of it)
He has the team playing motivated and light years better than Les Miles
Our offense is playing much better
Avg 21 pts with Miles, avg 32.6 coach O including Bama, avg 40.8 pts without Bama
Our Defense is on another planet (avg 13.8 PPG)
He fired Cam and promoted Steve E. and that has been great (except Bama)
He relieved BDP of his LB duties to focus on Special Teams and they are covering great and Growden is punting good
He is 4-1 and favored in the next 2
Played Bama close except too conservative offense (OL played shite)
He got the team motivated after Bama loss (Miles could not do that)
He made the team better by less practice to save legs
All of the players are happy, motivated and making plays
Just think if he had a great QB
He says it like it is- no LM word scrabble
He does not eat grass
He claps properly
He handles the media properly
He loves LSU and wants the job more than anyone
If he hires a great OC and QB coach like Sterlin Gilbert, Lincoln Riley, etc... we will be fine
He would be a bargain at $3M per year compared to $6M
That would free up money to sign Aranda to an extension and pay him as the highest DC in all of CFB, and make him a great deal for next HC (raise of 3-400K) to get to $1.7M per year. Not bad for a coord job!
It is much different because O is great at this interim stuff, imagine if he had more time to do even more things better? His audition is going smoothly. Tom Herman's Houston team has fell off the map of relevancy or even decency (Although he is still someone I would look at) and Fisher is just mediocre now at FSU and he is good but old school. We need a fresh bad arse OC from the Urban Meyer type model and Gilbert has made Texas a good offense with a freshman QB.
O deserves a shot. The question is how good O has done with this team thus far?
Great- better than expected
Average
Below Average
Poor
I bet most tick the top box!

Luginbill said during the broadcast that there may be 40 college head coaches who would take this job.
I think before we jump to any conclusions let's see what we do against Florida and the Aggies and see who is interested in the job.

The other one they mentioned was Peterson at Washington

He didn't say "schools". He was listing the only coaches that most likely wouldn't be interested in the LSU job;
Urban Meyer - already at a destination program with and receives everything he wants from OSU.
Nick Saban - No need to explain.
Jim Harbaugh - He's all about Michigan. Always has been, always will be.
Chris Petersen - His family is in love with the northwest. He also has a special needs child that receives great service there. Washington is locking him up for possibly a reported ten years.

The more time he gets the more it will look like Mike Archer or Jerry Stovall. Keeping O is an objectively terrible idea. Outside of LSU his next best prospect is to the be the HC at ULL. Yet some of you clowns want to keep him. He is a great interim coach, nothing more. interim.

Oh yeah and pay O only $3 mil, save $$$$ to pay OC Fisher $6 mil and DC Saban $7 mil. Problem really solved by O delusional fans.

Correct statement....seemed once LSU had it in hand all they wanted to talk about was the playoffs..etc

I mean, that is what announcers do during a blowout

I love O and what he's done, but there are probably better options for us out there. You have to take emotion out of the equation.
I loved hearing those guys speak so highly of our program.

According to the majority of LSU fans, the only qualification to be the head coach at LSU is a cajun accent.

huh?
Jimbo's finished 1st or 2nd in his division each of his 6 years at FSU. Went to the ACC CG 4 times - won 3 times. One national championship and another playoff berth.

Harbaugh, Saban, Meyer were mentioned as unlikely candidates because Michigan, Alabama and Ohio State are better, higher prestige jobs than LSU. I think Texas is as well except that Strong may have been rumored as a possible candidate only if he was fired at Texas. So a successful coach at Texas would be an unlikely candidate for the LSU job. Peterson was apparently mentioned because of other extenuating circumstances since no one can argue that Washington is a better job than LSU. So to their point they were arguing that there are really only 3 or 4, maybe 5 schools that are better jobs than LSU. Pretty flattering for LSU.

Can he recruit the state?
Can he recruit nationally?
Can he consistently win in the SEC?
Can he win the big games?
can he speak English?
just kidding, I'm very fond of O

keeping Archer was a product of the desire to sustain the success Arnsparger had. Too young, picked by the players. Disaster.
Jerry took over in a pinch and did a good job but was way too inconsistent. not the same thing.
There is some truth in what you say, but you have to weigh the risk of O vs. second tier coaches, and with a solid OC I'm okay with rolling the dice w/ Orgeron. I don't see the objectivity of saying O is a terrible choice under this scenario.
