You actually quoted my statement and then totally misinterpreted it.. I said a transfer portal QB might be better or worse than Nussmeier. That is not saying Nussmeier is garbage. What I did say in the other part not quoted is that Nussmeier has holes in his game. 1) he doesn't scan the field fast enough...the same problem Daniels had his first season at LSU but he went into the VR room and fixed that. He speeded up HIS game 2) Nussmeier almost always refuses to take open yardage. He FINALLY did it twice in the OU game but didn't do it very often at all. He doesn't have to be a dual threat but he has to pose some possible threat to run. On the plus side, he clearly has a strong arm and makes good decisions if he has enough time. Basically, he is like Derek Carr with the Saints. If he has great protection, he is great. But if protection breaks down at all, he panics sometimes and refuses to run with open field in front of him.

He put up damn strong numbers with a limited run game, zero protection, and few if any WRs that could get separation.

Zero protection?

LSU allowed the fewest sacks in the SEC while also throwing more passes than any other SEC team.

The OL obviously struggled when Dellinger went out but saying he had “zero protection” is absurd given the numbers.

Yeah that's an absurd argument. And why Jones coming back will be big for whoever the QB is

He is the second most important decision on offense at this point

He has started for 1 year now.....1.

verry difficult to scan the field when the last 4.5 games have had a jail break up the middle of the interior line, sometimes not even touched.

In addition, JD had what, 3 years prior starting experience. Sure, there is plenty that he can improve on, but for a first year starter, without a run game and the problems with the interior line, and not to mention a poor OC....and average recs.....he did pretty damn well and the future is bright for him, imo.

Nothing about this season looks good. Not the results, not the game plans from new offensive and defensive coordinators Joe Sloan and Blake Baker, not the effort. Not the pass protection from an offensive line that has two projected first-round picks, OTs Will Campbell, Emery Jones Jr.

Hello, LSU.

The interior of the LSU offensive line gets pushed around, and receivers aren’t making contested catches. One receiver, apparently, is uncoachable.

We won’t be very good regardless, but I digress

They both showed flashes in their first year

And at least some of their improvement could be attributed to the improvements of other offensive players on the roster as well

If you want to defend that take using a hit piece from a USA Today writer after the Florida game, be my guest. Doesn’t make it accurate.

The protection was objectively awful against Florida. We gave up, what, 7 sacks? Which makes the fact that we still gave up 2 fewer sacks than any other SEC team on the season even more impressive.
