That press conference was exactly what was needed right now before Gameday airs tomorrow

The national sports media is going to be in full force tomorrow and LSU needed to present a united front with a simple message of "we got this", and that's exactly what they just did.

Like him or not, Verge is in charge right now and he said the governor is not. He said his directive is to get the best coach out there and he insinuated that a performance-based incentive contract is not a requirement. In summary, he said that they've told him don't worry about the money because they have the money, just get the best coach.

As a fan, I feel way better now than I did before that conference. Remember ESPN and others read this board every day. We have to present a united front and be happy because if we're not, they will continue to sow division and make LSU out to be a clusterfrick and we can not have that right now.

The lack of want to answer questions directly, or even at all doesnt leave me happy. They all looked at each other everytime a question was asked

Verge is the stalwart of the athletic department. He might be the only remaining person there I trust

They just fired two very high profile, very high salaried employees. I'm sure there's a metric shite ton of legalities in how they answer certain questions right now until buyouts are settled.

Agreed. It’s okay that it was a bit awkward.

They said what was important.

We have the money

We want the best coach. Period. Whatever contract that is.

The State has not and will not ever pay any of it.

No more public statements.

Pretty clear Gov Landry strong armed everything happening now. And that conference appeared to obviously reflect it. That’s the reason for the stuttering and blank stares.

Yeah wouldn’t want ESPN to say anything bad about LSU. That’s never happened before.

The Governor didn’t strong arm any of that.

The BOS members in that press conference are the same guys who bankrolled Landry to his position as Governor.

The awkwardness comes from the fact that those guys are very wealthy baws and not polished public speakers. But unlike Landry they aren’t going to talk out there arse. Which resulted in the awkwardness as they tried to deflect answering

Landry was trying so hard yesterday to double down. His advisors should have known better than to mess with football

Woodward was fired because he fired Brian Kelly without the authority to do so. He needed BOS approval, but did so without getting there approval first.

I haven't listened to it in its entirety, but what I did listen to so far felt like a direct response to what Landry has been doing. Maybe once I listen to it completely I'll change my mind.

This press conference won't matter at all. Dumping on LSU will be the trendy take. I'd be willing to bet you’ll hear more than one pundit say tomorrow something to the effect - “LSU is a mess. What coach would want to walk into that?”
