It seems pretty shitty of him to quit at this point, IMHO. I remember seeing an interview before the season and he was talking about how he was still excited as ever to get out and coach...but now that he realizes they are sub par he quits on the team mid season. Isn't that basically what a fair weather fan is?

Come on, man. We don't know why he's retiring so suddenly. I don't want it to be anything serious but it seems like there's more to it than him just retiring.

I sure don't want it to be any health issues for him.

I didn't get that impression. What makes you think that? Hopefully no health issues there, I have respect for him as a football coach, I'm sure many here do. Upon hearing the news, I just couldn't help but think that if they had a couple more wins than he would not have retired. Even still, Spurrier has put in his time and he deserves to retire in peace.

Just how suddenly this happened.

I could be way off, but it seems like there's more to the story that hasn't been disclosed.

I just don't see a coach like him bailing on his players, coaches and such halfway through the season to retire. That's all I'm saying.

Maybe I'm just delirious from studying, but was I the only one who read this in Hank Hill's voice?

Retirement has clearly been on his mind for a while now going back to preseason when he slipped up stating the case and then had to cover so it didn't sway recruits. I felt a bit sorry for him in his post game interview. He looked like he had just had sex with Caitlyn Jenner on a drunken night and just realized it.

There comes a point in one's latter years that there are things that they just don't have the zest for their job anymore. For some they plan for it. For others, it hits them like a ton of bricks and they realize that it is time to go.

Spurrier was probably hoping against hope that he could have one more season, that it would be a good one and he could go out thereafter. It probably became apparent to him, that wasn't going to happen. Like others, he probably stepped back and looked at the big picture and decided it was time to go. By going now, it gives SC time to start looking for another coach.

As for Spurrier himself, as others have said, he has more than paid his dues. He deserves to retire in peace and I wish him nothing but the best in his future life.

Coach Spurrier's press conference after the LSU game was difficult to watch. I felt that he was done at that moment. We all agreed that something was missing and it appears now that it was.

Great coach for the SEC for a loooong time.

Yeah he's just done with his team, points to excuses, bad tackling, falling over, and being generally a weak team. Heres the full Presser
