Games played at neutral sites can negotiate a TV contact worth millions. Games played in home stadiums fall under conference TV contracts. It sucks but that's why neutral site games are so valuable to the AD.

Same reason LSU played Wisconsin in Houston and Green Bay. TV networks putting up big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for nice match-ups

You could have all of that in Austin and Baton Rouge.

Correct...many athletic departments do this, none more than those from the SEC. It's a trend I hoped would lessen, particularly with the new SEC TV $ flowing into the coffers ! Hopefully the season ticket holders, fans and local economic interests will begin to demand better home/home series vs. these money grab games..at least a few great home/homes every 10 years !

Posted about this series last week. LSU went public last year with their plans to play an opener in the Superdome against a quality OOC opponent very soon. Openers are set for neutral sites the next two years. The Texas series falls right after that. If it is moved to neutral sites for those years there will have been ONE power 5 team (Syracuse this Year) to play in Baton Rouge between the years 2013-2020. Sucks arse.

I'd go watch a game at UT, not in the fricking Alamodome
Posted on 3/15/17 at 2:54 pm to Grandioso
Alamodome is a good place for a high school playoff but not for two top tier college programs to play. Hope it stays Austin and Baton Rouge. Would be much more fun.
For the record I have really enjoyed the "neutral" site games but I hope this one doesn't change.

frick neutral site games. Home and home

Everyone knows the LSU/Texas home and home is going to become one game in Houston or Arlington and it sucks.

Probably so.
The Houston game has an opening in 2019.
The Arlington game has an opening in 2020.

I cant see this happening, especially in SA. Now if they said Dallas or Houston then I could see it, but Texas will never loose a home revenue game like LSU........That game will be played in DKR! Just like Texas will play in Tiger Stadium.

I would hate it. It would suck even more as a texas fan. Their 2 biggest games would be neutral sites. As a season ticket holder I'd be livid. Games are so much more memorable and enjoyable when they aren't played at a neutral site. There are only a few exceptions to this.
Posted on 3/15/17 at 3:58 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
I will go to the games wherever they are played. But I really like the neutral site games in week one or in week two as the game has a bowl/playoff atmosphere surrounding it. Not to mention air conditioning in early September! Play the games in Houston and Arlington with half the tickets to each school.

Great idea...then give the season ticket holders {you know, the ones that contribute the most to the athletic department}, a home slate with Nicholls,Troy and Western KY....sounds/seems fair...lol

It's no longer about the fans, it's all about revenue. LSU made more money from the 2 Wisconsin neutral site games versus a true home series.
This won't change anytime soon as long as LSU continue to sellout its season ticket allotment.

I'll list out 5 reasons why:
1) I'd assume the neutral site would pay for the team's expenses incurred.
2) The conferences pressure the schools to play more neutral site games as they can advertise it as a Classic or with some other bullshite title.
3) As mentioned, TV contracts and other media incentivize teams to play these games.
4) It drives a short-term economy boost for whatever city the game is being played in. I'm sure that all those involved receive kickbacks.
5) Money controls everything.

move the Texas vs. LSU series to San Antonio

Why cant they just allow big teams to play each other at home fields anymore
Yep. The LSU-Wisconsin series is prime example. Both sides screwed up an opportunity to showcase two of the greatest stadiums in college sports. No more neutral site nonsense.

Home for LSU is Baton Rouge Tx can decide where their home is, but money should be about equal
