Texas is trying to make college baseball salaries spiral out of control like football salaries, only to land their 9th choice for head coach

For the life of me I don't understand what's going on with our Athletic Department.
You've got a fantastic coach in Dan Heefner at Dallas Baptist. Why we don't send a moving truck to his house is beyond me.

Not sure how much interest Mainieri has in Texas. LSU better job probably but much more pressure in Baton Rouge.

I would have Texas as my No. 2 job, and LSU as my No. 1. So, very close together.

I’ll be the first to say this: I would be shocked, utterly shocked, if Mainieri leaves #LSU. WTS, up to Joe Alleva to remedy this issue.

Hell, I don't blame him for using the Texas job as leverage. Even though the program has been down, it's still probably one of the top 5 historically great college baseball programs and one of the few that could realistically pose a threat to poach LSU's coach. I mean if the report was "Missouri considering Paul Maineri" no one would take it seriously.
To me, because of LSU's bonehead President and the current state Governor, now is the time to attack LSU. Alexander has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to extend any additional funds for athletic head coaches at this time. Doing so would ruin his narrative that LSU is in "dire straits". I don't care what anyone says, LSU had something in the works to replace Miles until Alexander stepped in because the cost got too high to be palatable for his "woe is me" claims regarding the university. There was absolutely ZERO logical reason to keep Johnny Jones after this past season. Yet, there wasn't even a hint of a thought to replace him. Everyone I've talked to that had knowledge of that situation has said "budget concerns" were the reason there was never a thought to replace Jones.
Texas' pitch should be simple -- "Paul, here is a ton of money that LSU has clearly indicated they won't match. You could be just as successful here (in a place with no state income tax) at a university that appreciates you rather than one that is going to underpay you in the name of political posturing."
I don't think he leaves. But professionally, it's not a bad position to be in.

LSU is the #1 job in college baseball right now and it really isn't close. Mainieri is far from the #1 coach.
Mainieri should be told to walk just for interviewing.

I think it's safe to say that LSU is the #1 job in college baseball. Texas is a top 3 job.
It's top 3 but I can't really say it's definitely #1.
