Pocket Awareness

The first few games of the season were challenging for Daniels. Incorrect reads and hasty decisions halted offensive success with many of the difficulties coming when Daniels would rush out of the pocket to make the “hero ball” play.

Fast forward to Week 8 and everything changed against Ole Miss where it became a completely different story for the signal-caller. Daniels looked much calmer in the pocket while sitting back and allowing for plays to develop. There is credit to be given to him, but his offensive line helped carry much of the load as well.

Going Through Progressions

Another major challenge to start the season was Daniels’ inability to go through each progression and find the open wide receiver. This certainly changed over the last few games for the better. We saw Daniels hit his third and even fourth read at times, specifically in the matchup against Florida in Gainesville. It was evident the continuity this offense gained towards the end of the year, and led by Daniels, it began clicking in a big way.

With a receiver room that played up to six guys a night, chemistry formed and the Tigers made a late run to win the SEC West.

Yeah, lots of growth shown against Arkansas and Aggie at the end of the season. 1 TD and 3 or 4 turnovers?

he had a 3 game heisman worthy stretch of games and then for whatever reason stopped wanting to push the ball downfield after the alabama game.

I've been critical and noted concerns with JD and his lack of aggressiveness and trust in his ability to make throws and trust in his WRs, but I still think he gives us the best option to win. He just needs to find that balance between being aggressive and being smart with the ball.

He was very inconsistent. I wouldn’t call that growth

This oft-repeated narrative is bullshite.

He had a bad game against Arkansas. He had the fricking flu that week, and it was the game after the Bama game.

He followed up the Arkansas game with one of his best games of the season. Against UAB, he threw for almost 300 yards passing, 10.2 YPA, and a QB rating of 173.26. He also had over 100 yards rushing.

The A&M game was not as good: 60% completion, 189 yards passing, 5.4 YPA, and a QB rating of 105.36. 84 yards rushing. The team had a bad game. That was a tough loss.

Moreover, he performed well in the two post-season games.

Georgia: 208 yards passing in one half, 66.7% completion, 8.7 YPA, and a QB rating of 144.89.

Purdue: 139 yards passing being platooned, 70.6% completion, 8.2 YPA, and QB rating of 158.68.

So yeah, he had two late-season games that were not great. For one game, he had the flu for game week; for the other game, most of the team had a letdown. However, he had three late-season games that were good to great. Daniels did not stop pushing the ball downfield after the Alabama game.

Our fanbase was spoiled by Burrow. Daniels had a top 5 season in LSU QB history.

People will bash you but your right. I still can’t believe people are complaining that we have our starting QB who led us to the SEC championship and announce he’s coming back and people are rioting for a backup QB who has more interceptions than touchdowns in his career lol... it’s so wild!

Growth isn't just a linear trajectory. You can still have ups and downs.

Judging from his last year at Arizona State and the beginning of this past year, yes you can clearly see there was significant growth.

Yeah, a lot of growth in the last three games.
We will see vs Fla St, if the consistency is still there.

It’s clear as day that he got better as the season went along. It’s amazing that it needs to be repeated that the longer he plays in the system the better he will become.

The best part is that he has true chemistry with Malik and mason. That bodes well for the future. Secondly this off-season will be about further building with the rest of the receiving core and getting better with reads and timing.

We return the same coaching staff and he’s not in some QBs battle where he’s getter less reps in the spring. He’s going to be a monster come fall.

i'm not going to argue with you on here but for anyone that actually watched the games, you know his mentality throwing the ball and challenging DB's changed. yeah he threw for 200 yards in one half against georgia and had one TD to show for it. hopefully he can get better because he's obviously going to be QB1 going into 2023.

Good. That's a wise choice.

Oh, you ARE going to argue with me on here. Go ahead.

That's a very non-descriptive and subjective non-argument.

Daniels was clearly playing hurt in the Georgia game, and your statement is misleading, but let's look at the facts.

First Possession: Boutte dropped a tipped pass on 3rd and 5 to force LSU to punt.

Second Possession: LSU drove 78 yards, but UGA blocked LSU's field goal attempt for a scoop and score TD.

Third Possession: Daniels completed a 53-yard pass for a TD.

Fourth Possession: Bech tipped a pass, and it bounced off his helmet for a fluke interception.

Fifth Possession: Daniels gets tackled hard on first down and reinjures his ankle.

Sixth Possession: Three and out. Daniels is clearly hurt.

Seventh Possession: Nuss subs in.

Eighth Possession: Daniels subs back in, and drives 51 yards for an LSU field goal.

But a lot of growth in Georgia game huh? Funny how you conveniently leave that one out and even Purdue.

How many of those throws were toooooo late? Not anticipating the wr’s break and throwing or over/under throwing it????

Why do you think people got excited about nuss besides the obvious throwing of 50/50 balls? Probably can’t answer or you’re ok with it
