Yes. 100% sold he needs to go. Maybe he’s a decent position coach, but for $2M/year as a DC, he’s abysmal. Game planning, scheme, coaching technique, adjusting to his personnel, just not up to the role.

The fact is he schemed well last year, especially in game adjustments.
He didnt become dumb.
I think Kelly did him no favors with hiring had some unfortunate timing of staff illness.
I think he has not attracted top portal talent and has a very subpar defensive backfield, their deficits have created a domino effect.
Losing Brooks was the most devastating loss we could have had......he was the glue back there for the backfield.
I think what we are seeing with House is pressing. We saw it under Miles, we are just panicking and coaching so much that the kids are playing below their already not so great ability.
I dont think any DC hire could fix this performance. Now, recruiting new players and coaches..that is where he should be assessed.

I'm not going to bash House, but I'm curious where the last guy- Daronte Jones- is now.
In 2021, LSU was coming off an awful season with a terrible defense. They hired Jones, which made folks scratch their heads, and early on it looked rough. But by midseason, that defense seemed to have turned a corner, and was playing aggressive, competitive games against teams. As I recall, there were guys you hadn't heard of, making competent plays in crunch time. Scheme itself was working, people were doing their jobs and it showed.
Ok, I found him- back with the Vikings. They're now 1-4, might see a shakeup coming this season if the Vikes continue to crater. I know coordinators rarely return to places that let them go, but if I were Kelly and Woodward (and hadn't insulted him on the way out the door), I'd make some contact unofficially about a possible return next year. He did a good job here.

It’s undercooked. The ingredients aren’t coming together.

Pretty simple… he sucks!

He has had success in the past, is experienced and did not do a bad job last year, but doesnt seem to be a factor in recruiting.
This year, he has played arguably the best edge rushing LBer in the country in a nickel back role, refuses to substitute on the D-line enough in the heat of the early season, and he plays a defense where the outside WRs get a free release every play. Until Saturday, he made no adjustments whatsoever in the second half and it doesnt seem his head coach is the type to step in and force him to implement something different to stop the blood letting. And unless we absolutely kill it in the portal, we have nothing on the roster or committed in recruiting that says its going to get better.
All of that said, this now falls on Kelly for not doing anything about it. He let special teams go all of last year even though it was the worst unit in the country, and its not like it is setting the world on fire this year. Now we are in that position with the defense. You cant have one of your three units be the worst in the country for two years in a row and not react mid-season in some form.
I give them both something of a pass this season for the personnel, but if you cant even get the shitty players in position to at least be below average, you suck as a coach. And we are not even below average right now.

Underqualified for a Top 10 program, like LSU
Does he recruit? We need a great coach AND recruiter
1 - 10? About a 4.5

DL playing better is a must. Losing the young DL coach from S C really hurt. What’s the word on him ? Hope Pete Jenkins influence will be noticed. It all starts with the D L

I think he is forced to play a soft zone because the DBs are so poorly coached and it’s impossible for them to play man.
Against Missouri we were man to man on the first couple of drives.

Obviously some improvements need to be made. The main problem is a lack of talent; not hiring a DL coach after Lindsey took a leave was a mistake. We are relying on too many guys that LSU did not even recruit. We are going to have to outscore people this year. One thing that a coach cannot teach is aggression and toughness; the secondary is lacking in this department.

Are you 100% sold on him needing to go?
It’s not like me to be so sure to get rid of someone but the answer, for me, is an emphatic yes.

If forced to make the choice now, he has to go. I’ll reserve til the end of the season, but it doesn’t look good. The talent is there. He refuses to do anything but play zone and he has somehow completely neutralized our pass rush. I get that some of these guys are young but there are a number of five stars and former all conference players and we are in the bottom 10 in the country. It’s absolutely unacceptable to be that low at LSU. Ed Orgeron forced the defense to run the same play over and over and it still wasn’t this bad. He may not be the only issue but he has to be held accountable.

Jim Leonard is available and a great option for a DB coach
