re: Take a deep breath and give me your most logical review of BK's tenure so far

As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out. He made a major misstep initially (hiring House), and that seems to have us 2 years behind schedule in rebuilding. Our defensive recruiting hasn't been up to snuff and we lost a lot of players. In response he did go out and get a defensive staff that should be able to get out defense back to meeting our high expectations. Sadly though, it's going to be a couple of years before we can bring in the players needed for that. I know that with the transfer portal you can bring in people to help immediately, but I think that is only useful to fill in small gaps. You need players to grow in a system. I just hope we can keep the defensive staff together while that happens.
Initially, my main concern was that under BK the offense was going to be stale (like the miles years), but he certainly showed last year that is not always going to be the case. The play calling can get stale from time to time, but so far the offenses have been able to move the ball and put up points. Special teams have been an issue, but I think that's a side effect of all the other issues. BK has been trying to put out too many fires at once. There has been improvement through. We seem to be able to actually have returns this year.
So, while I don't know if BK is going to be able to get everything working at once, I think we've got to give him more time. As long as we see steady improvement in the defense from mistakes being reduced (as personnel won't be improving through the year), I think that's a good sign that the defense is getting on track. We keep getting a steady flow of offensive linemen and tight ends, and with Bryce Underwood coming in, our offense should have the weapons it needs. It's just going to take some time. I know that our fan base is particularly impatient, but starting over with a new coach is just going to decimate our roster and make us start over (costing us a couple more years). We just need to do well enough this year to keep the 2025 recruiting class intact. If we do that, and BK can slowly work out all the issues, we could be a powerhouse in a few years. If this defensive staff gets us the players (as they seem to be doing) and keeps its aggressive mentality, we could end up with a nasty defense. At the same time, Bryce Underwood seems like he might be able to give us an offense similar to last year. That seems like the dream right there. As long as that picture of our 2026 and 2027 teams remains viable, I am willing to give BK a little more time.

How can Baker build such an elite defense at Mizzou, and struggle to have the defense prepared at LSU?
Because there is limited talent on this defense. They just aren’t good. We went from having 9-11 NFL players on D to maybe 2 this year.
In Kelly, I’m still really optimistic. We’ve had the best three year stretch of offense in LSU history. Our roster was decimated by Orgeron. You would hope that the D talent improves over the next two seasons.

Trying to be objective, and no emotion:
1. Re-building a program that coach O neglected and drove into a bad place. No secret there, but it was bad. Not an easy task.
2. Made a couple of miscalculations on staff, and in recruiting.
3. The transfer portal & NIL systems are still in the infancy stage as far as how long they’ve been around. Most of us don’t know what we don’t know about it, cycles, what works best, letting some trial and error play out to get methods for success. So, BK like many coaches are still figuring out the best process. He’s one of the coaches that I’d say will be in the top tier in that category when it’s said and done.
All in all , I’d give him an “A-“ as of today, with the chance of it going to “A” or down to a “B” depending on if LSU goes 10-2 or 9-3 this season.

Given the absolute dumpster fire that O left, maybe we are expecting too much in year 3. BUT, for the second straight year it appears that BK does not know his own team, he has entered the season unprepared. It the program getting better? Maybe. I do not know.

Jury still out.
He inherited the worst team I've ever seen a new coach get. So far he's rebuilt very well. But, I'll give him more time before I have an opinion.

He's our coach and not going anywhere, yet. I think we couldn't have done any better at the time of his hiring, he was the best candidate and glad we didn't hire the crazy names people were throwing around at the time. One day the AD's of college will quite giving these guaranteed contracts without some type of out clause. If they do good 1 year pay them, if they suck the next pay accordingly.

Lacks organizational skills, poor judge of coaching talent, struggles with critical decision making, maintains low expectation levels of staff and players, not an exceptional strategist, suffers from anxiety over the pressure of coaching here, worries too much about how he is perceived in public, lacks motivational or inspirational abilities.
Other than all that he is decent man.

I’m surprised that our special teams continue to be below our standard. That needs to be addressed
He let him go like he did with Baker and Oneofus, but they're back, so what's stopping him from bringing GM back?

He's right up the road at Tulane, so that seems like a logical move to me. It's "Spock like Illogical" that he hasn't already made the move.

. While the offensive playcalling has been questionable at best, if Nuss would pull the ball just 1-2 times a game I would be willing to bet the run game would be a lot more dangerous. The coaches may be telling him not to run at all, but if not then he needs to start. Sloan is obviously still figuring things out and I think he’ll get more creative as the season progresses. And if Underwood makes it to campus he’s gonna have a field day with the offense.
You nailed what I am seeing. My guess is the coaches are not comfortable with the backup QB's and telling him not to run to save him. I have seen at least 5 times he was wide open to run and get needed first downs.

Last year we couldn’t field a punt cleanly and when we did rarely gained a yard, but it appears we’ve at least improved in that area. Still room for more improvement as you’ve noted.

O seems better, but I’m just really upset, so judgement may be clouded

The jury is still out on BK year 3.

I think Kelly is building a program for the long-haul. While yes, he wants to win right now, I think he is very much concerned about building the type of program that Saban built and it took Saban several years to get it right.

The results have certainly been underwhelming but I think a lot of that has to do with the state that Ed left the program in. And I think BK is finally gaining ground on truly repairing that if we can hold on to this incoming class.
If I had any say whatsoever, he definitely wouldn't be on the hot seat or anything. But he needs to finish out this class. He could also use a signature win against Bama or Ole Miss.
Overall he's made some head scratching calls and moves. But what coach hasn't? he's better than Miles and Orgeron and doesn't make the outright boneheaded gaffes that those two chased after. If he can get this class on campus, in tact, it'll be a huge step forward. I just don't think weve restored the level of players we've grown accustomed to and that's a big reason for the lack of high level success.
I can't. but that's probably because we haven't been elite since 2019.. and even that year the defense liked to go back and forth between beating arse and sucking arse.

He has found a way to win 10 games in both seasons but can you look back on any part and point to a game where you thought we looked like an elite, title contending team? In all 3 areas of the game?

I agree with most of this. I like how he is process driven and I feel like that type of coach has to have time with kids to get them to fully buy in. I also expected to be better by year 3 but the biggest disappointment to me, is the lack of DUDES we have on defense in year 3. He definitely missed on some portal guys last year and should have went all in on some guys this year. I like the guys coming in but we are still in a bad spot right now on defense with glaring holes. I'm anxious to see how he treats the portal this offseason because if Ole Miss can get this much help, there's no reason we can't. In all, I still trust that he will bring us a title before he leaves, just hope it moves towards that direction quicker.

Best case scenario we honestly lose 3 more this season (Ole Piss, Bama and Oklahoma) based on our play 3 games in. Kelly just isn’t a fit in this program.

This was the one and most positive thing you could count on about a Les Miles LSU team. I think people are missing that now.
