Disagree here. Coaching is more than just giving players information and running drills. Part of the job is getting in between the ears of your players in a good way and training their minds to succeed as much as you train their bodies. Matt House failed in two ways to prepare that 2023 defense.

1) He made the mistake of trying to make LSU into an NFL defense. People will tell you that both Matt House and Joe Sloan for that matter are as impressive on the white board as anyone you'll find. They know football like you wouldn't believe. Unfortuantely for both and specifically Matt House here, he tried to install such a complex defense that the players couldn't grasp it. An NFL team with nothing to do all day but prepare because football is their job is far different than college players who have far less time in their day.

2) The players hated Matt House. By the end, they had no faith in him whatsoever and they played accordingly. You ever worked for a boss that was completely out of touch with reality? How'd your productivity look? How'd the staff's productivity look? House failed dramatically on both of these points.

didn't demetrius hoofkin have a couple bad years here, then maybe under saban 1 year he improved, then had a reasonably respectful pro career?
No he did not play in the NFL It was amazing that Saban got him to where he wasn’t beaten EVERY time and could at least compete but still a major liability until his last game. I respect his improvement though.

I'll always remember him for taking an interception to the house in the waning minutes of garbage time @ Mizzou that helped me seal a bet I had on the spread. The smarter play would have been to fall down so we could kneel out a guaranteed win, but he went for the points and I'll always thank him for that.

Found it...

I been watching LSU football since 1971 how long u been watching son. And easily the worst starting db in LSU history and the only one i have ever seen celebrate making a tackle 20 yards down the field on 3rd and 15.

None as bad as Burns missed tackles and getting beat anytime the other team went at him which was often.

This is a bad take. You obviously don't recall the total stiffs Archer recruited, or David Butler, or heck even Sage Ryan.

Yours is the bad take Butler could tackle just couldn't cover Sage was bad at both just like Burns but not as bad as Major. There was a reason Kirby told Burns he needed to go somewhere else if he wanted to get playing time after his freshman year at Georgia.
I have never seen another LSU db celebrate after making a tackle 20 yards down the field on 3rd and 15 and that happened alot.

You are waaay off here. Since ‘71 and that’s what you come up with? So the worst DB that has ever started for LSU just got invited to camp with an NFL team. But you think you’re the one who’s correct here?

Loomis anytime you want to be schooled in LSU football let ne know. Getting invited to a camp has nothing to do with how bad he was at LSU. Did you actually watch him play and see all the missed tackles and teams constantly pick on him every game in coverage.....obviously not.

I dint know who the worst ever was, but we had a corner a couple years ago that was crap. Just worthless.

There's been a few corners who have been worthless the last few years.

Burns was mediocre and sometimes a bit above, but not the worst.

It's good for him that he appears to be doing well in the professional ranks.

I know he was trashed quite a bit by the posters on this site.

Correct, and that puts a huge strain on the safety if they feel they have to cheat to that side to help a corner.

It's obvious he has grown mentally, and probably physically to where the game slowed down and he can rely on his natural skillset

Are u referring to the skill set that had Kirby Smart tell him after only 1 year that if he wanted to see the field he needed to transfer because he was never going to get any playing time at Georgia....that skill set?

The skill set that Kirby himself recruited...very hard. So, maybe a hs kid tricked Kirby.

I have no clue. But I am saying a good safety makes a corner better, and vice versa

Burns was to Kirby as Yorke was to Jay. He realized he wasn't a player and corrected his mistake after 1 season. Burns had plenty of good corners and safeties ahead of him at Georgia. Deon Sanders in his prime couldn't make Burns a good safety!
