I am not sure when you where a student but this has been going on for a long time. I was at the earthquake game and 30% of the stadium had already left when the remaining crowd made history.

There were a shite load of kids left in the SEZ chanting LSU to shout down the Syracuse fans.
There is no excuse for the students. They are the Univerisy.
Many of us were once in the same shoes they fill. Even more so that have filled those same seats when we were not good at all.
We did not leave then because we had respect for our school.

I was a student 96-2000.
Student section never left at halftime. The Greeks have always been pathetic and we always griped when they left early but certainly when I was in school the vast majority of the student section was intact.

There are many reasons why its ok and not for students but nothing more than having pride in your University that you attend. You think the product lasy nigjt was worse than 1999? Students werr not void of the stadium then.

The TV experience is superb and you can drink pretty much anywhere you want to drink EXCEPT in the Valley. If you want rowdy Cajuns in those seats then you better believe that they will be drinking. The fact that they have ony served alchohol in a few select sections of the stadium has absolutely changed the type of crowd in those seats.
But they don't want those rowdy Cajuns in the seats. Those seats are all paid for these days whether they are filled or not and that is all that they care about. They will continue to charge more and more for tickets and still blame the fans for not packing them when they are mostly sold anyway.
Things are the way that they want them these days and they won't change them. They feel that they have no reaason to try.

This is the first year I know of in years where the waitlist was exhausted and seats were still available

We have adopted that mentality when the kids are not with us. No real reason to leave early and a few good reasons to stay til the end, just like the students.
I agree with the OP. We live 4 miles away and were home by 10pm staying 5 min past 0:00. 21 yr old students have no excuse to leave early.

Maybe they want to experience college Saturday nightlife instead of watching a shitty football game on 90 degree weather. There's simply one excuse.

Tard. That's why I mentioned the time. Game ended by 9:30 and Beat the clock died years ago. College dudes are drinking and sitting on dirty couches in apartments while waiting on college gals to get ready to go out at 9:30 on a Saturday night.

Everything being on TV is killing a lot of attendance, NFL too. Definitely MLB. It's too easy to not wear pants and have all the food and drink you need and never miss a play.
But if you go, go. Stay, make it count. Yell the whole time. No one fears our home field anymore, why would they? It's weak. We're USC, but with worse weather and worse cheerleading uniforms.
