Over the last two years we have lost our games to me in the trenches. Specifically on the offensive line. I blew last year off to COVID restrictions, but at this point it's not an excuse. Shouldn't some fingers be pointed at Tommy Moffit at this point. He's been here forever, but our offensive and defensive line just aren't powerful. That starts in the weight room. Thoughts?

I think there are more reasons than S&C, like:

Schemes
Play calling
Player development
Recruiting
Technique

I think OL is purely a recruiting issue, there's just not much talent there. This is on O and his terrible hire of Gregg

DL I think its our NFLU issue, there's often young talent there but it can often get mauled by older, more experienced OLs.

I"m not negating play calling, coaching, etc., but being strong enough not to get shoved back into the QB consistently is a big problem.

Damn. This thread is coming early this year. Usually people start deflecting to Moffit half-way through the season.

What about 2019?

Also guys like Deculus & Hines have some all-time lifting numbers for OL. Deculus can squat almost 700lbs, for instance.

This is always the low hanging fruit for mouth breathers. Recruit better players. End of story

Didn’t you defend the recruitment of OL? It’s been an obvious problem for years.

There's an old adage, what interests my boss fascinates me. Moffit works for O, thus he's probably looking for coed calendars to hang in his office or passing on what he hears as O critics for future physical retribution.

Saban targeted Moffit years ago to work at Bama, that's all you need to know. Stop trying to pin our demise on anyone else rather than O, it's a waste of bandwidth.

It seemed every player UCLA had on the field was bigger/faster/stronger than our players. We looked Tiny, specifically on defense. Major Burns and Jay Ward are tiny!

Has nothing to do with strength and conditioning... our guys are strong and in shape. We are getting beat with technique and scheme plain and simple.

A lot of getting destroyed at LOS was on scheme too. Some players won their one on ones, but its hard to block 7 rushers with 5 guys.

On the flip side, we were trying to defend a power option rushing attack with a 4-2-5 formation.

We made zero adjustments when UCLA adjusted and it killed us just as bad.

If you look at how our players perform at the Combine and pro day they do pretty good.

I don't think TM is a problem at all.

Technical coaching is the OL positional issue. Culture is the over-arching team issue affecting everyone.
Our team is soft mentally. There is zero mean streak in anyone.
All of them have been pushed into that position by the HC who is an egomaniac with limited intellectual capacity, which, is why he can't hire top end coordinators.

In a nutshell, that is LSU football.

With the DEs we have, more like a 4(2DL, 2OLB)-2-5

Biggest issue to me is personnel. LB talent not what it has been since 2009 really, DL is good but any legit top 3 round picks in the JR or SR classes?
