That being said, last spring and summer J LEE got on the ball and dropped a ton of weight and got into much better shape.
That example does not help your arguement. Did Lee's career take off as a result? He is still sitting the bench. If Z Lee had staid, I doubt J Lee would have seen the field.

Dude gained weight and missed practices. It's a job and Garrett was not showing up.
But you'll never hear that from espn and their dumbass "reporters"

Coincidence or just lucky OTL timing, Garrett waits until he can't even bump Tara's Paul Harris from playing time at NW St, to address this.
True, or not, the young man needs to take more personal accountability as to where and why his QB skills and maturation process at such, currently reside.

Wait so what Garret is saying is..
Just because he currently holds a scholarship..he can slack off and do anything he wants? Get fat and out of shape, and show no improvements?
What if a walk-on QB shows much better improvement and has a much better work ethic? frick you Chris Garrett.

Well, this is ESPN sensationalism at its best. It sucks things don't work out.
I'm guessing Dad contacted ESPN a while ago and told them about their son. has nothing to do with ESPN hating LSU.

The funny thing in all of this is from what I heard the letter was just supposed to be a last resort motivation by Les & co. A real man comes back works his tail of to clear his name and gets his scholly back. It turns out his true quitter colors were shown.

I remember this dude.
Had no idea he was still QBing somewhere.

when the University sends the "letter" stating that your scholly is being pulled...the NCAA should allow the player to transfer w/out losing a year of eligibility.

Makes sense.

IMO, the only case where oversigning is a problem is when you have more than 25 qualified initial counters. All other cases are a result of competition.
When Nutt signed 37, probably 12-15 didn't have a prayer of qualifying. All the signing does is create a hopeful bond that the athlete may consider you after JUCO. I really don't see the evil in this.
WRT to the 85 and the upper classman who get cut, while unfortunate, they are not guaranteed that ship. Coaches are pretty good at communicating expectations. As far as there should be clear objective standards they should meet, that's just not really possible. There are too many very important subjective components (e.g. bad team mate) that go into this. While a lot of this is subjective, it is not arbitrary. Coaches are trying to do what's best for the team.
As was pointed out, Garrett appearing as a victim of oversigning is a joke. Even Porter's situation was overblown. "He can't practice or play the ENTIRE FALL SEMESTER." While I think the way this went down was wrong, they made it sound like they put a cap in both his knees. What about the fact he would have gotten his ship in the Winter/Spring, would have most likely redshirted anyway, and as a result gets his eligibility extended another year.
Porter's situation happened because they misjudged the number of qualifiers. Personally, in situations like this I think the school should be required to give the kid a ship the following year and it should cost them an additional initial counter. With this kind of penalty, I think you could let them go to school full time in the fall also while letting him get the greyshirt benefit.

If you get an academic scholarship and you underperform, doesn't that get taken away as well? If they want it to be a guaranteed 4-5 year scholarship then change the rules.
Yes it would be. The same concept goes for athletics as it does for academics.

The whole piece was a hackjob. I don't care that they didn't mention other SEC schools who have done similar things, but why not mention exactly how Chris Garrett's season went at NWST, or the fact that he's now leaving them after making 'a commitment to that program'?
Somewhere along the line he didn't uphold his end of the deal when it comes to earning a scholarship. I feel bad for Elliot Porter and think that situation was handled poorly, but Chris Garrett can eat a bowl of dicks.

The kid got cut plain and simple.. Can you not get cut anymore if you arent playing like your supposed to??
1.) Being honest and up-front with players & recruits concerning their status in the program.
2.) Getting an equal opportunity to compete for playing time.

I hope LSU saved some of the emails his daddy sent to coaches, that could paint a different picture.
I also like the clips of chris throwing in his big backyard trying to play the victim role. Nice.

This will all be gone agian in a few days. It will not affect our recruiting at all. We've got great kids who are very excited to be at LSU. Some player will be let go, we know it's part of the process.
The kid who went to "The U" and started 17 games was the real one who got fricked in this story.
