Stop looking at the offense negatives

This defense is good enough to win you a game. We haven’t seen a defense like this since the Miles era. They’re fast, hit hard and get after the ball in the trenches.
The offense can struggle and we can still win dog fights bc of our defense.
La Tech plays a non traditional defense and that’s why you saw the struggle in the 1st half. We made adjustments and kicked their arse in the 2nd half.

Even as bad as things looked at times, Green still had over 100 receiving and Tre had 93. We proved it doesn’t have to be a Watkins show.

I’d be fine with never playing them again. It fricks with our mojo having to scheme around this defensive scheme that nobody else uses.

We should’ve been able to adapt earlier. That’s on Lane/Weiss.

On a bad night still out up over 500 yards.
Just protect the ball
Just protect the ball

This is what I come to the Rant for. “Don’t look at the negatives, only look at the positives!”

by the time we get them on the schedule, these coaches and scheme will be elsewhere bro.
We had almost 600 yards. It’s going to be OK.

Much reapect to the Bulldogs. They played hard on both sides. Those dudes would walk through fire for that coach. Fans should be proud of that effort.

So we just have to throw on a non traditional defense at lsu and lane folds?

I don’t think we should pretend the negatives don’t exist. They do exist and most look fixable and can be worked through with reps.
I think against a team like ole Miss or a real threat lane isn’t going to bang his head against the wall. Tonight he knew we would win and tried to work through it. Plus La tech has a very unique look.
The only mistake that isn’t fixable would be how our line didn’t look physical. The only thing was they weren’t blowing our line up, it was a free guy coming in from lack of communication. So maybe easier to clean up than we would think.
I haven’t rewatched it but I don’t recall anyone getting roller skated back, almost all the tackles for loss I can recall came from missed assignments.

Against LA Tech.
If we see that some offense as yesterday in SEC play, we're going to lose a lot of SEC games.
Sure, the defense is great, but we can't have turnovers like that. Not sure how you can deny that. Just have to hope it's a one off. Through 2 games, Sam Leavitt's passing has been fairly suspect. His decision making yesterday was god awful. We can win big with him at QB and this defense, but he can't turn the ball over like that.
I do think the defensive scheme made it a little difficult on them. The biggest thing for this offense is protect the ball. We know they're going to score points simply because of the scheme and play calling, just don't shoot yourselves in the foot.
I also think they went into the game wanting to use a more vanilla game plan and not show off Trey'dez as much, but the way the game played out made them have to change their approach a bit.

If Pete was smart he would throw in some 3-3-5 but good luck with that.
Lane and Charlie wanted to work on things, in a real game I don’t think we keep doing what we did.

Yes, we are #3 in total offense nationally after 2 games averaging 44 PPG without the pick 6.
There are some issues which have been pointed out, but it is still a lot of new guys playing together for the first time with a QB who hadn't played in a year in half before last week.
The good news is we have already tried more things through two games than we tried all of last year. Direct snaps to Jones which worked great last week, direct snaps to Treydez which worked last night, Wilson, Wright and Watkins all have carries that got some good yards, we ran a shotgun QB sweep that scored a TD last night which could probably work against a lot of teams, and we saw a little shotgun option last night which probably has potential in the red zone as well.

They had almost 300 yards at the half. Lane and Charlie aren’t the ones blocking in the red zone and throwing 3 picks

Two of the best offensive minds in college football ,yea I’ll blame them.Dumb asses.

This is all true and bears repeating. Even with the pick 6 and a number of turnovers - frankly, the turnovers in the red zone just eliminating the pick 6 and the other interception in the redzone and settling for FGs (and assuming we made both), that would have been a 100% redzone percentage and a 51-(garbage time) 7, "more" impressive beatdown of a, frankly, overperforming team that beat its prior opponent 80-0.
I'm not saying La Tech are giants. I'm saying they are maximized as a team. They played as well as they can with the personnel they have (some of whom will play on Sundays), we didn't play as well as we could have, it was still a laugher (from late in the 3rd) and we were pulling away.
The inability to get hard yards and the OL woes in pass protection are still troubling.

This isn't schoolyard football. You can experiment, situationally, with some different packages, but you can't just install a 3-3-5 for one game.

Can we say Kiffin decided to go more vanilla this game in offense as not to show all plays that will be used against Omiss? Not sure why since they should know Kiffins office to a T.

I think they tried to stay fairly vanilla in the first half, but that got thrown out in the second.

And that should be a wash, because Lane and CWJ should know Ole Miss (defense and offense) to a T as well.
While we're on the subject, would any Ole Miss defensive starter, other than Echoles, start at LSU in 2026?
