I was thinking about that yesterday. That was an uncool move by little Nicky, rivaled only by becoming the coach of Bama.

Saban didn't care about LSU after he left. No coach wants the next guy to do better than themselves... except for maybe Lou Holtz. That dude loves him some Notre Dame.

Don't they both have sexton as their agent? I wouldn't be surprised if he was just trying to help sexton.

Good think LSU was fooled once on hiring a replacement as suggested by a departing coach.

Exactly. He suggested Nutt because Sexton told him too. Sexton represents both of these tools.

Was Nutt a client of Sexton's at that time? Maybe Nick was trying to keep it in the family?

as a contingency plan in case the NFL didn't work. He'd either replace Nutt as LSU was firing him or return to the SEC and not have to face the monster he created.

Why......Bill Arnsbarger left LSU as head coach to go to Florida as AD and he suggested we hire his assistant Bill Archer to replace him....guess what......we did!!!

Arnsparger suggested Archer instead of Spurrier who allegedly wanted the job.

Still can't believe Saban went for 50+ yard field Goals.

Just think of what could have been with Spurrier on top of his game.

Spurrier wanted the job but was not yet a name coach.

It would have been like Florida hiring Meyer out of Bowling Green (Spurrier's USFL experience ~ = Meyer's BG experience).

In hindsight it would have been a terrific hire - but not at all a slam dunk at the time.

Bertman asked him for some suggestions and Nutt was one of a few. I don't think he told Bertman to hire him.

Saban suggested Nutt because his teams always gave LSU fits and with much less to work with.

Spurrier interviewed and so did Mike Shanahan. Neither got a second interview.

Nutt had (may still have) the same agent as Saban
