Statistical Assessment of Myles Brennan

I’m amazed that some fans are blaming Myles Brennan for LSU’s loss.
Through 3 games, Brennan has 1112 passing yards, 11 TDS and 3 ints. This is after the best receiver in the country opted out. Brennan is averaging just 8 passing yards a game less than the almighty Joe Burrow of 2019 and only 0.4 passing TDs a game less than him last year. With that said. Let’s take a look at how his numbers compare to the last 10 seasons of LSU football.
In 2018 The Tigers went 10-3 and Burrow threw for 2894 yards, 16 tds, and 5 ints. In Brennan’s first season as a starter, he will surpass these statistics.
In 2017 Etling threw 16 touchdowns throughout 13 games.
In 2016 Etling threw 11 touchdowns in an entire 13 game season. (Brennan already has 11 in the first 3 games)
In 2015 Brandon Harris threw a total of 13 tds and 6 ints in 12 games.
In 2014, Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris combined for 17 tds and 9 ints while the Tigers went 8-5
In 2013, The mighty Zach Mettenberger threw 22 tds and 8 ints. He had 2 future pro bowl Wide Receivers and a stud running back. Tigers went 10-3
In 2012, in Zach Mettenbergers first season as the starter, he threw a whopping 12 tds and 7 ints through 13 games. (Brennan already has 11 tds in 3 games)
In 2011, an excellent LSU team went to the National Championship Game and laid an egg because they couldn’t throw the ball down the field. Lee and Jefferson combined for 21 passing TDS and 5 ints in 14 games that year. Tigers went 13-1.
Lastly, in 2010. Jefferson and Lee combined for 10 passing tds and 11 ints in 13 games. The Tigers still went 11-2..
I hope Brennan comes back next year. You can win a championship with Brennan. If we had a top 5 defense, we would be the best team in the country.

You have to have some sympathy for Brennan. He's like a kid that waited all of his life to get to drive daddy's Ferrari only to find out that it runs like a Yugo.

Brennan is fine, and aside from shitty o line play, the offense is fine.
The problem is defense, defense, defense.
The problem is defense, defense, defense.

I've said from the beginning that Myles Brennan is a GREAT quarterback. It really is a shame that the entire defense decides to quarantine themselves every game.

Besides getting better on 3rd down that's really the main concern with his growth. Other than that he is doing well. Hopefully since he is performing he can be more of a voice to help this team gel.

I’m sure the 3rd down percentage will get better. In the game yesterday, he didn’t miss much or 3rd. There were dropped passes and a deflection on the last third down. The run game certainly didn’t help. And he did convert on 4th down to keep the drive going.

frick stats.
He had a chance to win the game and shite the bed.

Who do you think kept us in the game? Who got us to the 1??? If you have to rely on your QB to make perfect passes to covered receivers on the last play of the game to beat MISSOURI, you have much bigger problems than the QB.

First, that was all on the play calling. And second, the defense never should have forced the offense to be in that position. The offense shouldn’t be blamed for the faults of the defense. That drive should have never even have happened in the first place.

And he threw a perfect pass to the endzone that was dropped - thats on Brennan huh?

Mostly true (the pass at the end was late allowing the defender to make the play) and yet...with the game on the line, he shite the bed. It is what it is. He has stats against defenses that are shite. Let’s see what he does when he finally goes up against a team with a pulse.

Play calling was ok with the talent advantage alone.
And that second sentence is just dumb. What QB/leader does NOT want the opportunity to win a game on the last series? Four downs to score from the one and nothing.

Horrible defense aside (and it was shite),
is also shite! Keep in mind that this was against Missouri. fricking Missouri!

You’re also an idiot. Let me put it into simple words for you. It doesn’t matter if a QB WANTS to have the game winning drive, LSUs defense FORCED the offense to have to CREATE a game winning drive. It is not the offense’s fault they couldn’t capitalize at the end, as the defense put the offense into the position of playing from behind.
Read that post a few times.

0/10 on third down is a stat that is alarming. He has proven he has the ability. Needs to get the clutch aspect.

I got news for you we dont play a d with a pulse this year

By that logic, you can blame the loss on Cade York.
When you lose a 4 point game there are tons of individual plays/series you can point to. Myles Brennan has been fantastic the last two weeks. If there’s a problem on offense, it’s the lack of an effective ground game (which is a huge part of our 3rd down woes - we keep getting caught in 3rd/long situations).
That said, if you put even the second worst LSU defense from the last 10 years on the field, we are 3-0 right now.
