The Astronaut, I remember him well, the perfect compliment to Rudy Macklin, my favorite LSU Team of All-time.

I can still hear the radio broadcaster saying 'Scaaaaaaaaaaallllllleeeeeeeeeees" every time Dewayne skied for a dunk! That team is still the best one Dale Brown ever had.

That was my era. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before we won a title.

Tyrone Black

My girlfriend had a kitten and she couldn't come up with a name for it. We were at a game one day and I told her she had to think of a name for the damn cat. She said ok whatever the PA announcer says next is what I'll name it. "Tyroooone Black with a basket!" so he became Tyrone. The cat was solid white. I'm a dog guy but Ty was a great pet. I still miss him. Her, not so much.

Duane left after the 80 season to go pro. His astronaut nickname came from his enjoyment from getting high which was not uncommon from most athletes at that time. I lived in Broussard Hall. I really wish he would have hung around for the 81 team.
He never played with HC that I remember,

Yeah I was really disappointed that he didn't stay. We went to the final four that year and I always wondered what could have been if...

The period between 1978-81 was truly the High Summer of LSU Basketball. Dominant teams and great athleticism. They were fun to watch.

I saw them play in the SEC Tournament in Bham back in the day! I walked 4 blocks from work and was accompanied by 2 Kentucky, 1 Tennessee, and 3 other LSU fan friends.

If not mistaken Scales mad a dunk with the ball cradled in the crook of his inner elbow/forearm.
