I was friends with Mark Alcorn. We had several classes together and worked on a couple of projects together. Played pick up in off season with him at Field House. He was diagnosed with cancer and went very quickly. Still makes me sad to think about. He was a fun guy and fit in with that great team.

That's correct. I knew it wasn't BRHS. I went there starting in 1979. When I was a freshman, the seniors were called the "vanguard class of Baton Rouge Magnet." No football, basketball or baseball teams by then.

Bob Pettit and Al Sanders were BRHS alums, though.

I remember watching Greg Cook bang with Melvin Turpin and Sam Bowie. He did not seem to know they were bigger than him but he did know he was tougher.

We had more W's against Kentucky, when he played, than L's.

Sure do. He could fly. That team had The Cookie Man Greg Cook, The Black Jet Willie Sims, Rudy Macklin and Ethan Martin. Damn good team.

I talked to Dale Brown at a recruiting bash many years ago, probably 2003, he said he thought his best chance to win a NC and his best team was that team. Who knows if they would have beat Indiana had Scales stayed for that next season. Leonard "Swat" Mitchell came in as a freshman that next season and was a big-time leaper too. Vernel "the porn star" Singleton was a leaper as well. As for as vertical I don't think LSU has ever had anyone that could get as high off the floor than Marlon. Tyrus didn't necessarily jump high off the floor as the others but he got up so quick. Marlon can just get up. When LSU was recruiting him I watched some videos of him on youtube, the top of his head was above the rim. And when I watched game film I saw he had some skill. That's when I thought LSU needed to get this dude. I wish I could remember all the nicknames of the players on that 80/81 team. Hi C, Swat, Rudy Toot, Cookie Man, great team.

I think you meant to say the best team in LSU history.
