I don’t want Lane. Just look at Bama. A team that looked to be off the rails but has improved every week and is the arguable favorite to win the SEC and go deep in the playoff.

That’s coaching.

And has never made it to the CFP. Why would/should he be top of the list as a replacement for CBK??? Please explain.

There’s no need to explain this to you, for many reasons, but the main one being that he’ll already be at his “dream” type school before we fire Bk.

You’ll get bashed but I agree

LK doesn’t like defense and acts childish often. At this point, he may be better than CBK but he’s not done it anywhere yet.

If I were Kiffin I wouldn’t leave OM. They are probably going to offer him a ludicrous sum to stay, the fans seem to like him, and the expectations are far more reasonable. Oxfords not the worst place to live either.

Kiffin has never stayed at a place long and has never won big. I think he’s a good coach and a great OC, but the Rant is infatuated with a guy who is also unproven.

And also, Kiffen will command a huge contract. Exactly the type of contract the Rant is bitching about now.

Kiffin or not, there's a good chance the next coach won't have a playoff appearance under his belt. Here's the list of active coaches who have made the playoffs, there's not many guys on here you would even want in Baton Rouge, and even fewer who would leave their current job.

Dabo Swinney
Lincoln Riley
Brian Kelly
Ryan Day
Luke Fickell
Sonny Dykes
Kalen DeBoer
Steve Sarkisian

Dan Lanning (12-team)
Spencer Danielson (12-team)
Kenny Dillingham (12-team)
James Franklin (12-team)
Marcus Freeman (12-team)
Josh Heupel (12-team)
Curt Cignetti (12-team)
Rhett Lashlee (12-team)

People like the showy offensive gurus like Kiffin, they always get more shine than the defensive guys who usually make better head coaches in my experience.

Kiffin's has a 20 year track record as a head coach, including in the NFL, at USC and at Tennessee and he's never won anything. Yet he's always a hot commodity.

So well, that he was fired at the airport and left on the tarmac!

Baker and defensive staff is not staying on if LSU gets a new head coach.

No one can explain the raging hardon some here have for Kiffin.

“Think what he can do with LSU’s resources” is the best answer I’ve seen and that’s exactly how we got stuck with Kelly.

I want a head coach who will leave one side of the ball as an absolute non concern. Kiffin is one of the best offensive minds in college football, and has shown an ability to win in the SEC. He checks those boxes.

Of course he isn't a sure thing, but finding a coach who checks every single box is no easy task. I wanted Kiffin before hiring BK, although I never expected BK to be a realistic option. In hindsight, I wish he wasn't.

Exactly. He is an impressive play caller in the SEC.

Because this board can't get past Ole Miss from 10 years ago isn't the same Ole Miss in NIL era. Did Kiffin elevate that? Sure, but he also got significant help from them resource wise. Ole Miss is loaded with old money and actually have consistently outpaced LSU on NIL. It's not by lack of resources he hasn't succeeded which is why I have doubts with him. I honestly don't know who you could reasonably get that's better though. I think he's arguably second best coach in SEC. He will guarantee at minimum a good offense every year. All he has to do is figure out the defense side to win something.

This is my biggest reserve on Kiffin. I like him personally but I just can't say he's a sure thing which seems like this hire is even more important than last one if it happens. Kiffin hasn't done anything anywhere. Tenn, USC, Ole Miss, etc. I see people on here making excuses for him botching his roster last year but that was the second highest paid roster right behind Ohio State and he squandered it. just like BK, he loses several games every year he shouldn't. So I just don't know if he's good enough to win something here.

How many games does Kiffin lose in a year he shouldn't? Or games he dominates in, controls the lead, and still find a way to lose? That just happened with Georgia they gave that win away after leading for most of the game. It happens a lot with him too. This board would go in a frenzy if that happened to Vanderbilt. Kiffin dominated LSU last year on the road and still found a way to lose that game.

He hasn’t won a division or conference championship. So why would he be a candidate for the job? He’s won games, but hasn’t produced a contender.

Mike Elko ever win anything? Cignetti ever win anything? Did Ryan Day or Kirby Smart win anything prior to getting their jobs? Are we so scared that we need to hire an ex champion just to feel secure? Why not build our own thing, it’s what put LSU on the map in the first place.

To much like Spurrier. Kind of always been a smartass and loves to poke an opposing coach. Ask UT fans about Lane or Coach O. They loathe both.
We need someone that expects excellence and is willing to work hard for the money. I personally like Drinkwitz at Missouri. There is a lot to like about that guy. He came over from Appalachian State and has been doing a bang up job so far.

That’s the right thinking. Our past 3 championship coaches weren’t national title winners when we hired them. O had a dreadful record at Ole Miss, Miles was a second tier coach in the Big12 that Texas just beat 66-10 or something like that. Saban lost to Dinardo and had like one 10 win season. Look to the future, find a coach who’s hungry, on the cutting edge of what’s winning in today’s game and let him build here. The talent is here, the money will bring recruits in. We need a football coach, not a figure head.
