Someone tell me about Kylin Jackson.

I was looking over the 2023 safeties, saw his name, and went and checked out his HS film. I am no scout but how was he ranked as low as 17 nationally? He is long, extremely physical, tackles very well, seems to have decent speed, and plays with good instincts. He appears to have all off the skills necessary to be a very good SEC safety. What kept him from being rated higher? My amateur evaluation is that he can be a very good multi-year starter at LSU or any other D-1 school. Thanks.

He was highly sought after. Texas A&M, Bama & Texas all wanted his services. I would look at offer lists instead of recruiting rankings.

He has no relation to Michael. (The singer)

If that’s all he has then that’s why he was 17.

Good athlete, great in run game, gets caught looking sometimes
We’ll see how it goes at LSU, not best attitude in HS and wasn’t really worried about school or following rules.

We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout. We been talking bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out.

With as many recruiting sites & analysts out there now the above comment is absolutely the most accurate sign of a recruits “Worth”. If the dude has offers from top level P5’s (Bama, UGA, OSU etc.). Hes likely a “Baller”.
I will say that this staff doesn’t seem to just “Star Chase” like CEO & even CLM to a lesser extent. They personally scout their recruits & look for their potential as much as or maybe more so than their current ability.

Zachary basically had him play a Bobby Boucher role last year. Just get to the ball carrier. He was the best athlete on the field most games. He is going to need a year to learn technique and how to play his position in the SEC.
He will probably be a stud kickoff head hunter.

you realize this is high, right

From what I've read, he's a head hunter safety that plays more of an in the box type role. He is more inconsistent in coverage which likely kept his ranking down a bit.

He is going to have to learn some technique and how to play the position. Has a pretty high ceiling but 17th best Safety is actually not bad...he was a top 300 recruit which again is good.

I personally believe that CBK is the best coach for him and KJ will be highly regarded by the time he leaves LSU.

Sure, I realize 17 is high. My point was that his film made him look much higher than 17. Anyhow, other folks answered that maybe he needs some work in pass coverage and that would account for the less-than-the-film-would-indicate ranking.

At one point in time he was about #10 Safety in the nation. I also think he was around #160 overall in his junior yr.

He has a box safety profile, which have become pretty common, with lite-LB’s, big CBs, and safeties that can’t cover deep are moved to this spot.
Nothing on his tape shows he will have the ability to cover deep in space. He was the best player on the field who just over matched kids with ht/Wt/speed combo. He’s a blank canvas, who due to his size & athleticism can fit in a few spots. If you want to play into his strengths (downhill, violent aggressive tackler)Perhaps his best position is LB in the future.
