Some thoughts on the trip to Oxford

Made the trip down Friday night and went to the Square. I really enjoyed that area. Everyone was respectful and pleasant to be around. Got a steak at McEwens. Great service, decent food. Walked around and enjoyed the rest of the night. I’m 40 so too old to be in bars. Plus I don’t drink any longer.
Next day we head to campus. Tons of signs mocking Kiffin. Nothing out of the ordinary. Walked down the Grove near Walk of Champions and the fraternity stars were flipping us off and cussing at us. Really trashy, but to be expected given the environment. 99% of Ole Miss fans were really nice and enjoyable.
Then we went into the game. I bought 50 yard line tickets because I’ve never been to Oxford and 2019 season was a blur in alcohol addiction. Never made a game.
Pure electricity. The crowd came to make noise, the drone shows, the lights, the stadium PA. Ole Miss went all out. For 63,000 people they really sounded louder. I think others who went will back me up on this, but it was as loud as I can remember Jordan-Hare or Bryant Denny.
When they won it was pure chaos. I left once Ole Miss got the ball back to run it out. That’s when everything went crazy. Grown men started flipping us off, yelling frick you, all the things. I get 18 year old drunk college kids doing it, but it was classless to see multiple 50 and 60 year old men taunting us with profanity and middle fingers. It was really pathetic. Classless and “never been here before” behavior.
As for the game itself-We would have won with a competent QB. Plain and simple. Open receivers all night, multiple overthrows. I won’t throw a player under the bus, but Leavitt needs more time. It wasn’t Weis’ play calling and when the offense looks at tape-it’s going to want a few plays back. LSU has the better overall team. Ole Miss has the better QB. That was the difference(and a hostile away game).
I still think LSU wins 9-10 games and makes the playoff. Geaux Tigers!

Good post...LSU is more likely an 8-4 and maybe 9-3 team this year. Injuries are mounting.

I think you have to give Kiffin a year to implement his program for LSU. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect this to be a playoff team. It’s possible, but not probable we make the playoffs.

That was the single-biggest game in the history of Ole Miss, maybe only matched by the 2003 SEC West “co-championship” when Eli got put on his arse on the final possession and the Webels had to watch their season and his Heisman hopes get stomped to death by Chad Lavalais. It would have been a nice win for Kiffin, but far from a defining loss. The Webs entire season is now complete emotionally and they have a bruising home loss in their future.

This was their Super Bowl. They will probably create commemorative shirts and cups for it like A&M and the OT game.

Yeah I thought the fans were fine until they won. It’s like they didn’t really expect to win and once they did they didn’t know how to act. I’m 40 as well and some drunk college kids yelling frick you and flipping me off is to be expecting but def “never been there before” from grown men in their 50s and 60s. I get it.
Beating Lane was their superbowl but I assumed after winning they’d be so happy about it that they’d kinda lay off on the banter on my walk back to the car but that’s when it truly kicked into overdrive. That’s why I think that no matter what they say that they deep down were expecting to lose the game.
Anyway I’m glad to scratch Oxford off my list of sec stadiums I’d never visited but I’ll never plan to step a foot in the state of Mississippi unless maybe I’m passing thru on the way to a vacation in the future. LSU still has a much better future long term and once kiffins team phases out and esp the ineligible by the ncaa quarterback is forced to quit playing against college kids they will ease back into irrelevance pretty quickly. Their fans will argue and say they’re masters of NIL and Pete is a great coach but if he truly is as good as they think (he’s def not ) a better program will poach him too bc no high quality coach is staying at OM for a very long time if a school that actually has a chance to win nattys comes calling. If we had competent qb play we would have rolled in this game even though they def wanted it more and were playing out of their minds.
Anyway . My .02. We will go back to dunking on them per the norm before you know it. I’ll let the hobby lobby’s have their little moment. Geaux Tigers

I'm a purist. I long for the good old days when the crowd and the band were enough to make for great atmosphere. That said, now every stadium has light shows, drones, fireworks, etc. so we have to get with the program. I still think that our gameday experience is second to none, but we are severely lacking when it comes to the "showier" aspects that younger fans and recruits seem to prize. Our PA system is abysmal and has been for ages, the one drone show I recall was severely underwhelming, as is our light show (although the purple lights are bad arse), the fireworks when we score are pretty much two roman candles shooting out of the top of the south end zone, and our PA announcer is monotone and boring.
