Here's a story about Stromile Swift. He and I grew up in the same neighborhood and attended both middle and high school together. I was in 8th grade, and he was a year behind me; at that time, I was taller than he was. However, over that summer, he experienced a significant growth spurt and grew to 6'6". As a result, my former middle school basketball team became the best in the area. By the time he reached high school, he had grown to 6'8", the dunks from the video we saw them every game.
One of the best high school games I have ever witnessed was a matchup between Stro and Tony Bryant, with Fair Park facing Southwood. The gym was packed, and there were no available seats. Fans came from everywhere, and the band energized the crowd. It was about 75% Fair Park supporters and 25% Southwood supporters. The game was an incredible showdown, reminiscent of a matchup between Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins, with each player responding to the other's dunks. Tony was one of the best players in Shreveport, playing on the top team, while Stro, although younger, was right there with him. Tony was in the Class of 1996, and Stro was in the Class of 1998; they guarded each other with no fear, just exchanging dunks, layups, and field goals. Tony should have been recruited by LSU; that kid was truly exceptional. Fair Park won the game, of course but it wasn't by much. I think we won by 2 pts.

Sounds like good times...
Was Stro doing his signature hands crossed/thumbs locked hand sign after dunks in high school also? I've always wondered why he did that and what was the meaning behind it...

Reggie Robinson (LSU WR) was playing basketball at Fair Park with Stromile right?

Jerry Reynolds was an awesome player and probably better all around player than Stromile. He out played Michael Jordan when LSU played UNC that year. Stole the show and pretty much solidified his rank in the NBA draft.
As far as ranking LSU dunkers:
Stromile Swift
ShaQ
Tyrus Thomas
Ronald Dupree
Jerry Reynolds
Maurice Williams

the harderst ice cold **** to ever dunk a ball are Shaq, Zion, Shawn Kemp, and then a few after that, stro. stro threw down some nuclear stro-berry jams For real

Right on - I was 'bout to say Swift was the closest thing to Kemp ever to do it.
Shaq was different - he was over powering and brought backboards down, but didn't look like Kemp and Swift. He is in his own universe.

I’m getting old so can’t remember. Was it him or Tyrus that pinned Chris Mihm shot against the backboard? As I type I think it’s Tyrus but not sure.

Help me remember, he because eligible at the first of the year (2000) and we played Auburn and porter. Am I remembering that right?

That would have been January 99 (98-99 season). He played the full 99-2000 season.

My bad. Marlon Taylor not Maurice Williams. Got them mixed up.

hell yeah. I like to divide my dunkers into weight classes where the two plus 250 guys are Zion and Shaq and they are globally unique humans the likes of which we have never seen before or since.
Kemp and stro are in a different but still electrifying division of big strong tall guys with huge lenght but not quite carrying 285 like Zion or 340+++ like shaq
stro has long arms and power, and he fricking brought it.
Tyrus Thomas also a superman flyer and it seemed there was no altitude above the backboard he couldn't get up to for a lob and jam.
those guys were so exciting and there have been some legendary jams in the PMAC (jabari behind the back fake!) and I wish we could get some talent like that in there today
