I’m really hoping this is sarcasm but it is the rant so I have to question it.

I coached and played. There’s a lot you can learn in practice. Some kids execute in practice but not in a game and vice versus. There is some trial and error to coaching. This typically takes place the first couple weeks of the season. In college ball, you have your lineup by the SEC schedule. The midweek games is where you get everybody in and the weekend is where the rubber meets the road.

Well he did say that Helmers was moved to first to compete for the starting 1b job because he couldn’t cut it as a pitcher.

I responded to it as if it was sarcasm. If it wasn't it might be the most idiotic thing I've ever read but I do not want to believe there is that level of stupidity out there.

This is the same fan base that wanted Wade and Coach O fired this year

I’m thinking it’s sarcasm. Ell’s pure hatred of CPM gets a little extreme at times lol but he is still usually knowledgeable when it comes to the actual game of baseball.

I admit I’m bias against PM. I know I am. I’m also sarcastic. Blame my wife and kid.

I defend him for things like starting Poche game 1 in 2015. Or Reynolds in 2017 and how he handled that team. But someone pointed out to me recently that 2017 doesn’t happen unless 3 best friends decide to come back for each other and try to win it all. They didn’t do that for PM.

I figured it was more relevant that bringing up a player that hasn't been on the team in 4 years to make my point.

And, don't you just hate it that the players and coaches of the opponents want to win, too? Shouldn't they just concede a loss to us because our program has won the college world series multiple times plus we're in the all-mighty SEC?

I played D1 baseball. Paul sucks. The players play with no energy. Way too many free bases. Team can’t hit.

ETA: and saying this isn’t because they lost to Air Force. shite happens especially early in the year. But you can look in the dugout and see no energy from the head coach and it shows in the players.

I’m not a PM fan. In fact I’ve suggested LSU needs change in the past. However, I have played baseball and I’ve coached based enough to know that anyone who has any real knowledge of the game knows that in a 57 game season there is no way to know what your best lineup is after 1 or 2 games. It may be game 30 before he finds something close to his best team. This is a new season. Calling for his head now is just plain ignorance of how the game is played.

Well that’s what happened so.

And how’s PM’s gut feeling looking now?

Are you forgetting who moved Thompson to 3rd base to begin with? Are you forgetting who chose to start Thompson at 3rd base? I guess his gut feeling was right in that move. I’m glad Thompson is fielding more consistently in the games so far than he had in practice. It only benefits the team for him to play up to his potential. You’re the one who thought Helmers didn’t cut it as a pitcher and was competing for the starting job at 1st base. PM started Sanford, pinch hit Travinski, put in Wyeth who has had good at bats, pinch hit Drost, put in Coleman who stopped the bleeding. Should I go on with his gut feelings?

It only took 4 errors in 14 innings for PMs gut to get it right.

Was he just playing around at 1B? when PM saw him?

And he took Sanford out for Bianco... and then he emptied his bench up by 5. Those aren’t exactly strategic.

And where was Coleman yesterday with the game on the line?

Nobody said it was a gut feeling but you. He said he watched him field ground balls better and throw with more accuracy than the other guys competing for the spot. He didn’t say he was better or more talented. You keep harping on a non issue because you think you can hold onto the “one thing you’ve been right about” even though you had zero clue what went into the decision making process to play him there in the first place. You flat out said PM had a gut feeling to put Helmers at 3rd because he picked some balls at 1st.
