Appreciate you.

So no false signals from defense but offense is allowed to have false counts and hard counts???
It's a bullshite rule.

they explained the call and how it changed for this season. Before it had to be calling out signals, shouting, or clapping. Now they said they have added something about unusual movements or something like that. That first time LSU shifted they kind of made big arm movements and the second time they did not. (except 1 guy). It's BS either way but it's worse BS if swinging your arm is a disconcerting signal to an offensive lineman. More NCAA nonsense.

Yes, you could see Weeks yelling something right before the d line shifted. So it would appear to be the same rule as last year.
Weeks and Kelly both appeared to say “move” was command for the DLine to shift.

The officials inferred LSU called out a signal to coordinate the shift like that. Kelly let them know they shifted off the offense’s signal. They didn’t call it on LSU again.
In the first play on the replay you can see Weeks verbally shouted the call which I think was “Move.” I still dont see that as a penalty because the defense is allowed to call signals. It was very loud and you would expect a loud call…
Ironically, what would be a penalty is sitting back there and barking signals and not shifting.
The intent of the rule is to penalize the defense for thrusts into the LOS or simulating offensive calls.

Agreed Kelly was also telling the ref the call was “move”

They discussed it on OTB this morning. One person in the chat said Weeks was yelling "down" to shift the line, which is a word used by the QB.
I mean, I kinda get that it can throw off the OLine, but switch to a silent snap or use a different word? Defense is still playing a guessing game on the play and this gives offenses more power.

Linebacker is usually adjusting schemes in play. That can’t be a penalty.

The ref clearly thought he heard someone in our front 7 yell something that sounded like Moss's cadence.
It was the LB. You could see him move when he yelled “Move”.

Unfortunately, it’s not going to be consistent as it is now a “judgement” call.
If the ref thinks the shift was to intentionally cause the O-line to move, it will get called. I don’t know how you’re supposed to consistently not get a penalty for that.

Which is not against the rules.
A QB hard count with the fake clap is never called, but it's designed specifically to draw the D offside. Stupid all the way around.

It is against the rules now. Since nobody has posted the actual rule:
quote:
RULE 7 - SNAPPING AND PASSING THE BALL
. . .
Defensive Team Requirements
ARTICLE 5. The defensive team requirements are as follows:
. . .
4. Any player within one yard of the line of scrimmage (stationary or not) may not make quick, abrupt or exaggerated actions that are not part of normal defensive player movement. (A.R. 7-1-5-IV)
5. No player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play. No player may call defensive signals that simulate the sound or cadence of, or otherwise interfere with, offensive starting signals.
PENALTY [4-5] — Dead-ball foul, delay of game. Five yards from the succeeding spot [S21].
The reference to A.R. 7-1-5-IV:
quote:
Approved Ruling 7-1-5
. . .
IV. Linebacker B56 is stationary within one yard beyond the neutral zone. As the offense is calling its snap signals, B56 feints toward the line in an obvious attempt to induce a false start by the offense. RULING: Dead-ball foul, delay of game. Five-yard penalty at the succeeding spot.
Rule 7-1-5-4 is a new rule for 2024.

I heard you have to be at least 1 yard off the lineto shift. If you are not it's a penalty. Totally a judgement call.
Posted on 9/5/24 at 2:01 pm to tiger81
Someone on the Defense shouted MOVE, and they shifted.
Posted on 9/5/24 at 2:32 pm to tiger81
the rule is dumb for a lot of reasons.
1. it’s vague.
2. you should be able to try and jump and freak out a OL as long as you don’t go off sides.
yelling “hut” or “clapping” is one thing. But it’s crazy that the offense can play around with snap counts and intentionally try and draw defenders off sides but heaven forbid the defense show a hard blitz?

But with the Offensive coach having a live mic to the QB till 15sec left they have to allow for late DL shifts.

It’s gonna be a problem all year because it’s 100% judgement based and no two crews will see it the same
If I'm an OL and the DL keeps shifting, knowing that the Refs will call a penalty if they hear something, I'M YELLING something when I see the shift so the Ref calls the DL with a penalty. Stupid rule. Defense has to be allowed to communicate just like Offense does.

Even thats stupid, what if you need to change a defensive assignment? You have to yell it out.
