actually..about 5% of the Pennies

To be fair, I just researched..NFL is 28% of team revenue and NBA is 19.3%..so there you go.

I get how it works. I just wonder how sustainable it is when the folks paying the money to the players aren’t actually sharing in any of the revenues generated by the team. It would make sense if they were truly playing for NIL and getting commensurate business value for their investment, but it’s clearly just pay for play and that will never pay for itself from a business perspective.

Those businesses believe they are generating a positive marketing return on their investment. That’s not how NIL is functioning in many instances.

Those businesses aren’t giving players money to get them to play for a specific team. They believe being associated with a particular athlete will increase their business revenue. They are getting a positive return on their investment. That’s not how NIL is working currently. It’s pay for play.

Prolly only 20 schools (I'm guessing) in the entire NCAA actually make money and can afford to pay players. If someone actually knows some numbers, I'd be interested.

It is all about changing times, winning at all costs, spending big time money has been going on for a few decades.
You are correct the sport has just begun this major change, with this change the NCAA needs to look at rules along with enforcement.

The NCAA needs to get involved changing the transfer rule making transfers sit out a full season which will be good for the average student athlete.

Kids moving every season especially out of state, many college credits not transfering is bad for the kids' long term.

We are talking about winning at all costs here and not about what's good for the average student athlete

It was supposed to be the simple elimination of the infringement of their right to make money. It’s become a bright light on how much money was actually changing hands illegally. Plus they all think they need to be paid to play. That wasn’t the intent at all.

If you’re good or even entrepreneurial and want to endorse something or even start a business, go for it.

Solid post. The way things are now are bad on a whole lot of fronts. For the betterment of the game, and the student athletes changes need to be made. Once this is realized (actually probably already is) I suspect we will see refinement in regards to NIL, the transfer portal and ESD. I’m ok with change, in business if you don’t change you die. (Re blockbuster) and college football is big business. It just needs to come with parameters and over site. NCAA is always just a day late and dollar short on any initiatives such as this.

Literally every sport.

Edit: When I say “fans” above, I’m referring to the boosters setting up funds to pay players, not your average fan.
Then your question makes no sense

Either way, the owners are collecting that revenue and then the owners pay the players. My entire point is that that appears to be a mismatch in who is collecting the revenue and who is paying one of the larger expenses (player “salaries”).
What fans exactly do you think are paying college athletes and not pro athletes?

The dynamic is exactly the same as it was previously, the only difference is the players can get that money legally and pay taxes on it now.

Kind of disingenuous to stand on this hill now, instead of the last 20 years where this has already been the case

“I was okay with this when I thought the players weren’t being paid, but now that I know they are being paid this is an outrage! How dare they be compensated!”

Don’t the owners of the individual franchises pay the players? They aren’t asking outside individuals to pay players to get them to play for a specific team. The teams themselves pay.
