Next season it will likely take our offense longer to score each possession so that will keep our defense off the field more.

Kelly is and has always been an offensive coach. It showed this year. Look back to his Golden Dome days & see who he sent to the NFL - o-linemen. You see that on the '22 & '23 Tiger team & you see that in his recruiting.
So be it.
Does he need someone to be the lead dog on the other side of the ball?
That's above my pay grade, but the recruiting & play of the defense needs as much of his or someone's attention as the offense is getting.

Are you suggesting that returning defenders will not improve? Didn’t you say the same thing about JD5?

Stud safety coming in
3 versatile kids at lb
2 versatile edge kids
1 elite sde and 1 de who people think can add 20 and move to Dt
Low rated LA dt I'm hoping proves those rankings wrong
Cb depth but not elite by any means- all need weight to frame
Juco dt to plug mature depth
Portal s from atm

So yes, but we still have gaps. If wingo/ mason stay were fine at dt this yr

Portal:
Need 1 stud cb, 1 depth cb at minimum from portal
Maybe ss
Maybe lb

Qb room solid
Rb room jacked to the tits
Te room loaded
Wr room deep and talented - Maybe stud wr if can get in portal
Oline may sign another elite guard Friday and make it one of best recruited oline classes ever
De solid depth and experience back
Dt if big 2 come back have 3 srs at dt
Lb Perkins weeks penn and 3 fr
S gilbert burns Jackson yaites and fr mcbryde
Cb is the eye sore to me- toviano could be solid starter.. just need oh st kid and Alexander to come back healthy by summer camp, otherwise looks bleak currently.

'Are you suggesting that returning defenders will not improve?"

JRod, Hell yea, with the right coaching up, the D can improve - they can't get any worst, can they?
The question is will they get the coaching up & from who...not from this D staff!

BK was a LB and DC before he became a HC. At ND his defenses were good but offensively they were lacking. Especially at QB. He’s also had pretty good DC’s but I think he got complacent with House.

I do not trust Kelly one damn bit to do anything to improve the defense.

4 signees

Toviano, stamps, Hughes, jk Johnson, Alexander and sage

Y’all have do stop looking at stars

Did you think flott and ward were elite when they signed? they turned out to be day 2 draft picks

Causey and woodland could end up being better 3 years from now than cai bates and ondre evans

You have never seen any one of them play to say who is and who isn’t elite. You’re just associating being elite with a star beside a name that was given out by somebody who never played a down of football in their life

Someone said that Kelly said they only signed a couple out of the portal, and are likely done there.

If that's the case, I take that as a very good sign, to be honest. That's our coach determining that he has the guys on the roster to fill needs. People panic every year about that, but lots of times there's guys that didn't play as freshmen or sophomores while they learned the system, then were able to step in the next year and look really good ("hey, why didn't we play him last year if he's that good?").

That's what I suspect he wants- you go grab a can't miss transfer, if they're out there for whatever reason; but you build from within.
You can't excel by doing what we've done the past couple years, bringing in an entire secondary from outside each season. Even if they're good, they are new to the system. I'd rather have a very good guy who knows what to do, than a great guy who doesn't. It allows for more complex defensive schemes, which can do a lot for your overall performance.
