SO we should have done nothing? Or should we have hired a better coach that is unemployed in October?

We're having significant issues with our defensive line play. We're bringing in a guy to help rectify the issue.

Given that it's the middle of the season and available, proven commodities are few and far between, this is a step in the right direction even if it's not a cure all.

There are things to shite on with the program right now, but an effort to find a solution isn't one of them.

Due to Jimmy Lindsay's illness, John Jancek was tasked with filling in as DL coach. He coached DL once in his career, and that was 20 years ago. Kelly and the staff can see there's an issue with the quality of coaching going on with that group.

Pete is there to pass along his knowledge to someone who needs help.

Would you rather LSU do nothing?

So you are paying all of this money to the coaching staff and have to bring in an 80 year old man to kick start this thing?

Might be one of the dumbest comments ever on TD. Jenkins is the man.

No one is disputing Jenkins resume. As a high paid coaching staff you shouldn't have to do this.

Are you suggesting that the amount we pay our coaches should somehow make them immune to health issues?

It all starts with DL. A good DL can help hide inadequacies at the DB level. Gotta start to fix the defense there. Discipline play from the DL and knowing their assignments can also take a huge step in slowing down the running game. I dont expect a miracle but it cant hurt to have someone help teach the player what is needed. Maybe a different voice or approach to teaching can make a difference.

Just because a defensive coach is on the staff doesn't mean he has expertise in every area. Coaching DBs is VASTLY different than coaching the D-line, for example. We had a very good D-line coach who has sadly suffered a health problem. If you think that any other coach on the staff (who were all hired to coach specific position groups) can just step in and coach D-line (in addition to his responsibilities to his primary group, by the way) then you really don't know much about college football.

What exactly is House supposed to "handle" with this situation?! Is he supposed to step in a coach the D-line? Is he supposed to find a new D-line coach at the beginning of the season? What ace D-line coach do you think would be out there to hire on such short notice just as the season starts? What would you have him do in this situation?

When Lindsey had to step away, they tried to plug the hole with another coach, but it obviously isn't working. Hence the call Jenkins. Perhaps you could argue that should have been done earlier, but other than that, I honestly don't know what House could have done. To be clear, I think he deserves criticism for the schematic problems and overall performance of the defense, but I don't think he is to blame for the situation regarding the D-line.

If he does, House and his group of pretenders should be fired.
Can't recruit and can't coach.
