Usually I would agree but not when it’s your only viable QB. You suck it up and make sure he’s on the field every week.

I don’t remember some of the specifics, but wasn’t he on coke/dealing and the deal at the casino was the last straw?

Ryan and I played against each other in high school and I got to know him fairly well. No one loved RP more than RP loved himself. He was no doubt the most naturally talented player I ever saw in high school. Had he stuck around for those last two years, I seriously believe he could have been a high round pick. His work ethic and commitment to his teammates left a lot to be desired. He believed he was untouchable and it came back to bite him.

He did not free-base cocaine. Now he’d do a lil toot now and then!!

This is how I remember the vibe around it being. Everyone involved just being like, “dude, enough.”

I think he would’ve won the SEC and likely led us to repeat in ‘08.

Yeah no one was beating them after the OM debacle.

That’s why I think 09 would have been the year if RP stayed. Hell even if he left a rsSO Lee without the trauma of 08 might have been enough.

We held UF to 13 and should have had the ball with a chance to beat Bama with a tight-leashed JJ and headcase JL.

Yeah, 2008 we beat Bama and probably UGA. I think JL threw a couple pick 6s against UGA.
UF still wins it all.

LSU could have won it all in 2009 with RP.

He plays the 2008 season. JL and JJ aren't pressed into action too early and don't have their confidence ruined. Les is still the Mad Hatter instead of trying to hide the QB.

JJ had his confidence BUILT, not ruined, by playing as a freshman. And Lee’s confidence problem came from fear. There is nothing that can be done about that.

He has always been my main argument for NOT paying the players. Was his likeness the reason for his popularity? Did the sell #11 jersey due to his name? ... nope! It was because he was the LSU QB. How many JSU jerseys did he sell?

How many Chad Moony jerseys sold that year? It’s BOTH the school AND the player who form the brand that makes folks buy the jersey. That’s why they should both make money from it.

I don’t remember a Chad moony as an LSU QB in that era, butI think I that makes my point. Had he taken some significant snaps, some would have sold.

Maybe we could have beaten UGA; they really took it to us though.
With Perriloux and the game in Tiger Stadium, I think LSU wins a shootout. Remember that the offense was still moving and scoring, even with Lee... it's just that he'd throw a pick 6 once/twice a game vs good defenses. That doesn't happen with RP.

Probably finish 10-11 wins in 08 and a top 10 ranking, national champ contenders in 09 (after fixing the defense). The extra time developing Lee and Jefferson might mean an extra win in 10 and title (finish the deal) in 11; probably 1-2 more wins each season afterwards (Les not terrified of passing the ball, with a viable offense we beat Bama a couple more times).

I think if Ryan had been more mature when he was in college and made better choices off the field he could have have had a great career at LSU...
It's a shame because he was very talented and had great potential but came to college with too much baggage.
What is he up too these days anyone know...

Did you ever consider that they didn’t have confidence because they weren’t very good?

He would have been great in 2008 and 2009. But his attitude was so crappy that even if he wasn’t kicked off the team, he would have been a cancer.

I took the premise of the thread to be that he'd have been past all the attitude issues and other negative stuff. or at least mostly past it.

I've always said Perrilloux ruined Les. After he screwed us in 2008 and 2009 Les never trusted a QB again, other than Sr year Mettenberger

If one bad QB can ruin a coach with other players, what does that say about the coach?

IT WAS LES's pure arrogance.

JL had us undefeated up to the Bama game...threw an INT and I do not know that he ever played again.

My guess is that Les had a running play, JL saw something with an opportunity and changed the play...then was the intercepted. Les never forgave him.

Remember the NC where we could have used him>>

Perriloux was definitely the most talented q.b. to ever attend LSU.

it's a pitty that it was all below the shoulders though.

Would he have been a combo of Newton and maybe Mett?

No

RP was a good runner but nothing crazy. He was on par with Joe Burrow as a runner and I could argue from looking at clips that Burrow had better instincts as a runner and he was for sure tougher. RP was a good passer also. I think he could have been first team all SEC as a QB but he wouldn't have been a All-American or anything like that. If he plays the 2008 season, I think they go 9-3 rather than 8-5. They beat Bama and they beat Arkansas. Now if he would have stayed for 2009, that is the year he could have made a huge difference. They might have run the table.
