Meh. We were excited for this year, and it was a bit disappointing, speaking for myself of course. In other words, I don’t necessarily share your excitement at this point.

Thompson is probably at second next year. His main issue was throwing it to first and playing second can help with that. I wish he can figure that part out because I love his range at short but he can’t play there next year without major improvements on the routine plays.

Most coaches will to a degree. But your 1st baseman Cant be the best defensive guy on your infield. Or team for that matter.

Why would you have been excited for this year? If you were excited for this year, then it had to be bc you don’t follow lsu baseball that much…

We all knew they were still a very young team, with a first year coaching staff, and no starting pitching… hell I thought they wouldn’t have any pitching actually; the bullpen this year was a pleasant suprise

Agreed. This team ended up being exactly what we thought they would be to start the season. Extremely talented lineup with a deep bullpen but no starting pitchers and would probably be traveling for a regional.

This team would be playing this weekend with a chance to go to Omaha if the team defense was even average.

This team wasn’t young at all lol

And the pitching was 4th best in the conference Witt an atrocious defense behind them

The pitching sucked. We just utilized them well.

Starting pitching sucked. The bullpen was good all year they just were overused and it caught up with them late in the season. Having to throw 15-20 innings a weekend during the season will do that to you.

Yeah I didn’t say they didn’t have a good year, I said going into the season I didn’t think they’d have as good of a year as they did.

Again, I didn’t say they didn’t end up having a good year… I said going into the season, nobody saw that coming. “It was a pleasant suprise”…

Our bull pen had to pitch too many innings, IMO. They ran out of steam by mid-May.

I believe CJJ will get it done and get us to a Super next season. Maybe to Omaha!

Agreed.

We returned 7 of 8 position players. We had injuries to contend with - more so than most, but this team was not young.

Most of us still had our concerns about the pitching.

Yes we were. The core of our team was true sophomores and freshman. Just because some of them are really good doesn’t mean they are not young.

Yep.

CJJ realized we didn't have strong starting options. So he compensated by numbers. But as the season wore on some arms pitched tired. And others were under-used because we didn't allow them to work through jams.

So being young is only being a freshman? Lmao when most of your contributors are true sophomores, that’s absolutely young.

1 season of experience is young… especially nowadays with all the super seniors, the league and entire landscape of college baseball is full of older guys with years of college baseball experience.
A lot of our team was 1 season removed from highschool ball, and the draft eligible or red shirt sophomore’s we had played like 20 games or whatever in 2020

The only position player who by necessity was young was Pearson. Someone who essentially started all of '21 is not young (Crews, Tre, Gio, Dugas, Cade, Alex, Thompson, Berry).

That’s some weird logic. Why not? Just because they are good and played a year doesn’t make them veterans. They’re absolutely young and can still adapt to the college game in areas. This is objectively wrong. Relative to starting a team full of juniors and seniors, I would definitely call sophomores young. Pretty simple to be honest.

We lost our entire starting rotation and an overall pitching staff that was average. Johnson brought in some critical bullpen pieces. Johnson exceeded my expectations. I was disappointed just like everyone else we lost. Our bullpen was gassed late in the year. Shore up the defense and get two starting pitchers with Floyd able to locate secondary pitches and we are rolling next year.
