This was just a small taste of what’s ahead. JJ will bring in pitching and we will continue the hitting. So excited

All depends on how this recruiting class ends up.

Exciting for the unknown maybe. This roster will be almost completely turned over.

“Continue the hitting”
More like we need to reload. Losing good amount of offensive production

Eh I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Means less these days with the transfer portal plus this clas is deep.

Not really. We won’t lose more than a few bats out of the lineup. The pitching staff, sure

Any reason to think it won’t be stellar?

2 of our top 4 bats are back. That’s pretty good for a top lineup in the SEC.

I felt the same way after last season. We'll see...

I’m sure it will be good no matter what but it all depends on who gets drafted and how much NIL money we’re pushing out

I will never worry about Jay Johnson putting a quality line up on the field. The defense and pitching may be a year to year thing but they will always hit.

I hope you are right. Will he totally dependent on the work they do transfer portal

Crews-Morgan-Pearson is a nice base on the hitting side

But there are a ton of open spots that not only need to be replaced, but upgraded.

You need 3 weekend starters

You need a C

You need a SS & 3B.

These are tough, tough spots to replace

I would certainly add Thompson, Jobert, and hopefully Dugas to that base. While Jobert has things to work on, he is still a dangerous hitter when he’s locked in. Thompson was solid at the plate this year.

I’m looking for guys that solve the issues this year. Jobert & Dugas don’t not help defensively. I think Thompson can, but it won’t be at SS.

You cant come into next year again with 3-4 guys in the field that should be DH’s.,

Dugas isn’t a plus defender, but he’s not a liability so if he comes back to play LF, I think it’s fine. The upgrade defensively has to come up the middle, like you said. 40% of our errors came from Doughty/Thompson. I’ve got no problem with a veteran bat in the lineup with Dugas unless the next guy is a plus plus defender with lower and maybe that’s a freshman etc but until we get there, I don’t think you’re nervous about his OF play.

And Thompson should be fine at 2B. He was bad but at the end of the year he actually played well at SS. He needs to get right mentally this summer.

Or exciting to have arguably the most talented player in the country coming back in crews along with Morgan and I assume a few other starters.

I think Dugas plays third if he comes back.

I am willing to bet that most teams the shortstop and second baseman account for roughly that percentage of the errors. Those two positions have more opportunities than the rest of the team. It’s just LSU made a lot of errors as a whole and those two made their fair share.

Dugas is fine in vacuum in LF if your other 2 OF’s are + defenders.

But if Pearson & Joubert are in your lineup, one has to play in the the field and now you are bad defensively as a whole in the OF.

You can’t trade bat for glove all over the lineup like you did this past year & expect different results.

Yeah I realize that, I should have put the number out there. My point was if you fix that(cut the number down in half) you aren’t so worried about your defense. 2 guys were the problem, not 9 defenders. 3 when Berry was playing in the outfield.

Jay Johnson is ok with trading offense for defense. His teams will never be a great fielding team but there is a large gap between great and what they were this season so they will be better defensively.
