This is what happens when the rant is ready to string up a coach. It’s not enough to say it’s time for the guy to move on.

Smoke Laval’s record and accomplishments over a 4 year span were every bit as good as Mainieri has been since 2010
it wouldnt have been if he were allowed to continue as coach. Also, the reality is college baseball was less competitive in 2002-2004 than it has been the last 10 years in the SEC. Its not an excuse for whats going on, its just the truth

He didn’t.

That was Alleva once again being taken to the cleaners by a guy holding a pair of deuces. It got to be a habit with him.

Based on what? Because Mainieri has never had a god awful season or anything then bounced back to mediocrity, right? You’re acting like Smoke went 20-39 when he was fired, and again, this is not a compliment to Smoke but he wasn’t any less mediocre than Mainieri

This is not true at all. I’m not sure how old you are but judging by your posts and the fact that you don’t know which years Smoke coached at LSU I’m guessing you’re about 22. SEC baseball has always been strong

PMs worst sec season was 13-17 in the 13 seasons he has been here. Smoke went 13-17 his last year and was fired. His 2007 season, if he was allowed to continue was going to be even worse.

Well you are wrong again, im in my 30s and i know exactly which years smoke coached. I specifically mentioned 2002-2004 because those were his best years. And yes, the sec was good, but it was alot more top heavy, and not nearly as many teams cared as much, out as much money into facilities, locker rooms, stadiums, recruiting

If you had to guess what our SEC record was going to be last year, what would you go with?

All signs were pointing to last year having worse hitters than this year where we have Marceaux dealing. 15-15 is generous and probably max potential.

The hitting wouldve been down a tick from this year and the pitching wouldve been up IMO. Good pitching gets us some wins IMO

They hit 0.250 before sec even started. That’s more than a tick. And we are seeing how bad hitting can hang our even elite pitching to dry. Marceaux was 2-2 giving up just 1 run in 6 games.

We had mathis and garza also and the sec talent was down last year compared to this one. We had marceaux henry labas and hill and fontenot and beck in the pen. Its a totally subjective thing. Not even sure what the point of asking about is

Sticks in my craw to this day. Kyle Bouman was cruising thru 6 scoreless innings on only 69 pitches with a 4-0 lead when Mainieri yanked him. When they came back to tie it and then win it in 11, you still had to come back out the next night, but you just knew it was all over.

Like it's ok to admit that Mainieri is a historically good baseball coach, it's ok to admit that Mainieri taking Smoke's mess and winning a CWS in three years was a great coaching job, and it's also ok to admit that the game has passed Mainieri by and it's time to make a change.

It's ok to approach his coaching tenure with nuance.
